I recently did a vanos test throught my GT1 as I expected the 19 year old (M52) vanos would probably be dead, but to my surprise came up fine.

Not sure if it maybe is slower than fresh, but testresult was good and it's not noisy.

Not so on the S50 (cam sync error). I recently overhauled it completely with a Beisan seal kit, E39 M5 solenoid seals, vanos filter, screen filters removed.

After running the Vanos test on the M3, no more errors.

Eh? I don't recall a "test", just a vanos actuation that "causes the idle to be choppy". The S54 and S62 have an actual test.

Actuation for the M52, test for S50. Euro S50 that is (I assume that was clear).

Makes perfect sense, it was the first dual stepless vanos. So It needs a full test to check the complete range of adjustment and relative to each other (hence the cam sync error).

M52 (and US S50/S52) are either on or off, so actuaction only is sufficient.

It doesn't "come up" though. It it either, idle stutters or it doesn't. That is what I am referencing. It is easy for someone not familiar to understand the GT1 offering data on M5x vanos actuation. The "test" doesn't guarantee anything either.

I'm not even going to comment on the S50. I know what it is and didn't even quote it. You specified test for the M52 as quoted.
