pain in the arse. ended up pounding it with the small flat head and then taking a 90 degree hook to pull it out.

If I had looked in the bentley for how to remove this it would have made is easier since the DIY's don't really show how they go about removing the seal.

I was using an angled pick to pull the seal out by grabbing on the rubber. But the visual from the bentley shows as long as you can insert a small flat head between the seal and the shaft, then you can pull from there, which I did eventually when I realized there was enough space for me to insert a flat head between the shaft and the seal after spending quite some time trying to pry it out by the rubber with no success.

yea I actually pounded an indent in the metal ring on the inside and then pulling out from the indent.

btw, just curious if this is normal since mine is like that and I was wondering if it's supposed to be that way. The top cap moves around a bit also making a jiggling sound.

I replaced the Selector Shaft Seal today.

there is actually a seal puller tool made by BMW for just this job.

a screwdriver and some picks work, but the puller...... ahhh the puller.

                $62.47 - for the tool

Hey all, I know this is an old thread but it's the only mention of the seal removal tool. (83300491781) No matter what I do I can't get the little bastard out. I've tried picks, screwdrivers and hooked bobby pins. I'm afraid to get any more aggressive for fear of really messing it up.

I'm ready to order the tool, but I'm wondering if anyone has used it before? (With my luck, it'll show up and require the whole tranny to be out or something like that.) Any help would be appreciated.

                              Thanks,

                              ~Mark

screwdriver, and picks... gotta get enough "bite" to pry one side out, and it will come.

BE PATIENT. it sux for sure, but it will come out
