Haha, that's what I thought too when I read the subject line.

But back to the point, I have this same fear as my bucket has barely passed the last 2 smog checks (and both times were after I redlined it for about 20 minutes on the fwy to get the cats glowing hot). I'm afraid the next one isn't going to pass. And I really really don't want to spend any money getting this thing fixed. I may just end up pushing it off a cliff. Ugh...

The important thing, after getting fixed, is that it's worked on properly.

Mine too. High hydrocarbons. Barely passed (at the limit) last two times.

Looks like it a vacuum leak, that causes a lean misfire at idle... Thus high hydrocarbons... Or I could be completely wrong. Lol

Mine has had a damn ABS issue for the last 4 years. 6 new speed sensors and a second used pump and I am tapping out to send it to the shop next week. Damn electronics.....

Mine turned out to be the pedal travel sensor, the solder joints cracked. Removed sensor and resoldered joints, fixed the ABS light for me.

Good luck Richard - hopefully it's something minor. At least you have that shiny new vette to keep you company

In MA, we are emissions exempt after 15 years, although I haven't had to test what that means as I know they still scan the OBD2 port for codes. I get mine inspected every year at the local Honda dealer and the young techs get all excited when I bring her in - they can't believe it's 18 years old.

Just for the record, but later models don't have this sensor.

So you failed only the idle test for HCs?

Before you push it off a cliff, I'll take it for $20. I'll even fly out there and drive it all the way back to South Carolina, where we don't have emissions. She'll be in good hands

My e92 is running completely catless and no effs are given

Here in Ohio we don't have emissions. Hell I don't even have cats. For awhile I didn't even have an axelback

I guess this went off track. It's not so much about failing emissions as much as finally just not wanting to work on it anymore. (at least for this problem....) To fix almost anything on this car you have to drain the coolant, and pull radiator, and then pull the supercharger... Then you think you fixed it, and put it back together, and nope.... you get to do it again...

There is just no way to diagnose emissions problems without a lot of special equipment and time.

It looks like I just don't want to spend the time...

I'll keep everyone posted on what the shop does or finds out. I almost hope they find something serious like a Hg, or valve... Then I could just rebuild it and put in a Technique Tuning turbo...lol

What kind of VW safe haven doesn't have emissions tests?!?

I usually figure out if it is worth my time and effort in fixing something on my own with each of my cars. For the most part I have done the repairs, but there's been a few instances where I was not 100% sure of the issue and instead of playing that game I left it to the pros.
