there's no way i would ever race for cash .. as previously stated, you never know what the other guy has.
if he really has pride in his car and knows his stuff, he shouldn't need to race for cash ... i don't get why ppl don't just race for fun - no amateur (not meaning you're not experienced ... but i assume you don't race professionally) should be racing for cash - i don't see the point. You have better odds at the casino. Amateur motorsport should be all about pride in your car and/or driving ability ..
its nice to know that your car is faster than the other guy's ... but what's the point in adding money to the equation? something i've never understood ...
:???:
so, i also strongly advise against racing him for $500, if nothing else, simply on the grounds of you not knowing what he has

You know, race him for no money and lose on purpose. If you don't lose by much and you can tell that you can win if you actually try, then act angry and furious and say that you'll race him for pink slips, then whoop his ass and beat him up and then sell his car to his mom and use that money to buy him a bicycle while using the extra cash for college.
On a serious note, don't race him; he could do one of those vaccum setups and a bit more boost and he's running mid 13's. Friend's got a WRX and he tracked it stock at 14.2. Then he got ecu, exhaust, injectors, better ground, better driving....he's running 13.5's on a warm day in Houston--ugh Houston.
If you really want to play like you guys are in day-care, wait for the hottest days and race him.

I would say dont do it. If $500 is on the line, you will be a little nervous, and might cheese the launch. I would rather not have to worry about that much money if I were in your shoes. Plus, if he hates his clutch and pulls a better launch and wins, $500 goes a long way towards a new clutch.
Just have fun with the car; racing him for a cup of coffee and sit there and talk about what you have done to your cars. I am sure the two of you have a lot in common. This is JMHO, but it might be worth something.
