Okay i have the definitive answer, i was sorting through my service records from the previous owner today and read an article about the E46 330 performance package and how it was a temporary substitute for there not being a 4 door E46 M3. They were talking about the E36 97-98 sedan M3's and they said in those 2 years 7760 were sold.

I was also delighted to see that right before i bought the car the dude spent 400 bucks and replaced the RSM's plus added reinforcement plates WAHOO!

Most practical all around sports car with four doors while it continues to get excellent gas mileage as prices go up. I loved min so much I passed up a 99' carrera for the m3 sedan practicality. I must of lucked out having two of the 7760 made. The only draw back has been the price and frequent replacement of tires.

I wouldn't say it's a gas efficient vehicle in today's rising gas price market. I get about 21 mph on average to a tank which costs me about 25 bucks to fill. My 91 SER costs 15 bucks using the same 93 octane gas and gets 31 mpg. Both cars get about 300 miles per tank, one uses about 10 gallons ones uses about 15.

It seems odd to me that an enthusiast car like an M3's worth is measured in ...doors???

My only gripe about the M3 in a 4 door is the seats aren't all that comfy, nor is the side bolster aggressive enough. On the plus side, a sedan is naturally the stiffest e36 platform due to the extra pillar. Like most things according to my Iroquois grandmother...stiffer is better!

I love taking my kids & their friends in the M3 sedan for ice cream run. They can get in and out with no problems. I can load up & unload the interior with all four kids in under 10 seconds. And I can still blast to illegal speed with their backs pin to the seat.

Gas mileage is awesome compare to my 3/4 ton 4x4 with a big block.

Best of all. I get a lot of double takes on this M3. I think because it's a 4 door. There must be more than 20 M3 in town & only 2 four doors. :eek2:

I didn't see the Secret Code M3/4 Owner pop up on my screen. There must be a software glitch. I guess I also shoudn't mention how BMW gives sedan owners an additional 15% off parts because we do so much for their image <g>

Haha i feel sorry for you if a M3 is the gas efficient car in your family. It costs me about 25+ bucks to fill mine up with 93 octane gas @ 1.85 a gallon that gets me about 300 miles if i'm lucky per tank. The car is a bone stock 97 sedan gets about 21 mpg on average over the trip.

My 91 SER on the other hand gets 31 mpg and gets 300 miles per gallon on 10 gallons or less of gas that costs me 15 bucks.

Have you guys read that the M3 sedan and coupe weigh the same identical pounds? So what's the point of arguing which one is better or not. As far as performance, they're identical. Its just a matter of looks and practicality. One is taller and narrower and the other the opposite. I don;t think its accurate to say that one is better than the other. Just my opinion.

In my case, I hate putting more than 1 extra person in my car. Just me and my girlfriend or a guy friend if we're going out. Other than that, my other friends can drive themselves to wherever we're going. I hate having to put more wear and tear in my car. I wish I didn;t have any backseats to tell you the truth. My next car will definately be a 911 turbo or something with just 2 seats. For now, I'm not planning on having a family any time soon.

But I think the 2 door and 4 door M3's look really cool anyway.

                              The backsteats pop right out.
