18 shouldn't put the speedo off. The wall height on the 18 tires are smaller then for the 17, so the whole wheel+tire is fairly close between 17 and 18. But if it was bigger, you would be traveling faster than the speedo (given it was accurate in the first place)

I raced a audi a6 recently on the san mateo bridge, its like 7 miles straight. It was around 11pm. I hit 145 twice that night w/ 4 people in my car. I whooped the audi w/ no problems. The first time we raced i didnt downshift i stayed in 5th the next time i was going 80 and downshifted to 3rd. A while back me and my friend took his 99 cobra mustang w/ every imanginable bolt ons except a super or turbo. We raced a mitsibishi vr4 not sure what year but slaughtered it. He hit 160 and took a pic of it on my camera phone. I was kinda scared in the cobra cause it wasnt that stable. It started to shake. But my car it was fine no shaking. The only thing is switching lanes is crazy going 145

I live in Montana a few months a year. Wide open spaces and no cops around.



I have hit 136. Got nervous because of the condition of my tires and backed off of it.



Going fast in a residential is freaken crazy too. I know I will get flamed for this but I hit 115 in a sub-division last week. Mailboxes were flying by...

Don’t know what the speedo said as I was just out for a drive and not particularly trying to max it out, I was more concerned in looking down the (Private ) road !

what is the max speed the 99's can do before the gov kicks in? hubby says it's 155, which is what he said he was doing. something like this: he called to ask if i really loved him, i said yes, he said even if he beat the hell out of my car? (WHAT??) calmly i said yes. he told me he was just racing a 330 on rt 78 over the hill to allentown doing the back and forth thing and he looked down at the speed and said "holy sht". they gave each other the thumbs up and the 330 got off the next exit. not really racing, just appreciating each other's car is what he said.



i'm too scared to go above 100, but what a rush especially with the top down. i push it close to that often on local highways where you know where the cops are.

99's (and all other E36 US cars) are limited to 137 or so by the computer. Unless he had a chip there's no way he hit 155. When I hit the limiter in my car the speedo says 143 or so - so their is a bit of error at high sppeds as well.

I was in a cobra doing the same speed and I too was scared for my life - nothing at all even close to how stable the ///M is at 140 or so. :beer:
