Yeah. I asked a few of the techs while I worked at BMW and they said they had seen issues before with the gaskets breaking down on 'some' of the cars when people put syn in. I don't want to chance that, so I'll stick to the age old, proven mineral oil.

By any chance were these older mechanics? Because that definately was the case in the early days when Synthetics were formulated differently.

currently fuchs but will be trying motul 300v ,used motul in the gearbox and shift is 100 times smothes so i hope there engine oil is the same.

If there is already synthetic oil in the engine should I keep using it or can I switch to mineral?

You would have no problems switching back to Mineral Oil..

What are the benefits of synthetic oil? I'm not sure if I should keep using synthetic or not. I've always heard synthetic is a better protector but that's just people talking...

did mobil 1 discontinue 15w50? I went to buy my oil last night and all they had was that new "5000 mile plus" crap in nothing similar to 15w50 weight...whats up? Now I'm using cstrol GTX 20w50, good or bad?

i don't run it because im in fear of the rough startup which is typical in this car.. therefore the 0w-40

I have never heard a bad word about Amsoil. Great product, just harder to come by and the packaging is not flashy. Mobil 1 now that is a nice looking bottle. The best BMW race shop in Ontario (Raven) uses Amsoil.

well u guys think i should run 10w 30 moble 1 or should i go with 10w 40 or 20w 50??? I got about 70,000 on my m. which do u think is better. specially cuz its gonna be hot
