no OEM 3.46 for the E36 was ever made that I know (if there was I would of already bought one :shifty

Right, its only diffs online or something like that.

s50b30 is the Euro motor, not sure which motor you are refering too :clueless:

but yes, a US S52 with M50 manifold SHOULD beat a US S50

I know S50B32 is the Euro and S52B32US is the US. Is there a different designation for the US S50 besides just putting US on the full code?

*fine print for the bold is removal of ASC and same factory options for each car ect but yeah.

Those who are mocking WRXEATER about the diff should be laughing at yourselves instead. He was right and you did not know enough to understand his comment.

because for a lot of us, it DOESN'T. With other supporting mods, and the M50, I noticed NO lose in torque, and my dyno's support that...

Yes it does...physically impossible not to! If it doesn't, then it's something with the stock tune and the way it reacts to the manifold.

Flow more is not necessarily flows better depending on what result is desired. My point was that the Shrick may balance lower and upper rpm power or may simply flow all that a mildly modded S52 needs. I don't know the answer.

But yes, the M50 does outflow the Shrick and the data has been around for years:

            http://www.bmw-m.net/techdata/m50vsm52.htm

Edit: Here is the Shrick (same guy tested all 3 but I can't find the version with them all side by side):

            http://www.bmw-m.net/techdata/schrick.htm

i guess i was looking for you to define what you meant by "outflow"...yes, i am aware that the two variables in question are port velocity (consequential in terms of "low-end" torque) and cfm/"flow rate". unfortunately, this data only displays the latter. we need port velocities to draw a final verdict on whether the m52 is "better" than the schrick, in terms of a balance between low-end torque conservation and unleashing the beast on the upper end.

It has nothing to do with the stock tune. I don't think people are saying there is no loss but that they didn't notice it. That is completely possible, due to the dynamics of the plenum it could only come up in certain conditions (it should be mainly partial throttle) but it is also dependent upon the person's driving style. Plus, he said with supporting mods, which should put him at the same torque down low to higher up top. Are you saying that if he put on the S52 manifold back on he would have more low end torque?

I'm not mocking anyone but thanks for singling me out, I find it hard to believe a lot people that know these cars in and out and want such an in demand part didn't know about about this site. I'm unable to find it on the site and it doesn't seem to work like that so maybe you could please explain it to me? Are you talking about piecing it together by matching casings and flanges?

Actually, it may be me who has to eat crow. The Z3M uses the E30 rear (size 168 diff), not the E36 rear (size 188 diff). I don't know the E30 well and assumed there was a 3.46 LSD standard offering, but maybe not based on the very limited research I just did:

                http://e30world.com/specifications/BMW-E30-specs-table

I did not do more research to determine whether there this list is correct or there are non-E30 applications using the same diff that have a 3.46. If not, it could be that big bucks have to be spent to get even the 168 diff in an LSD with 3.46 gears.

                Edit: Think I found it -- 318ti has a 3.45.

It's all good man. I think you may be right. I don't know the details either but I find it hard to believe some one hasn't figured out this loop hole earlier if it exists. But if you do find anything let me know :thumbsup2:

It is no loophole or trick except for those with the very few with E36/7 Z3 Coupe or Roadster and six cylinder, since these cars alone had the M52/S52 with small 168 diff. All the rest of us with regular E36 six cylinder owners had the medium 188 diff. We have to pay big bucks unless we buy an old E34 medium 188 diff and swap the guts out of it into our medium 188 diff (that unfortunately has a different case) and probably also rebuilding it since it is so old. A few people have saved some money by doing that, but the details are hard to find.

correct... to get a 3.46 LSD diff in the 188 case for an E36

                          either

                          A) spend big money from Diffsonline, Koala, Metrix, etc

                          B) try to find ring/pinion in 3.46 from a different 188 case, and then ATTEMPT to put it together without the backlash specs and everything else required to build the diff. If you have a high quality diff builder to do it for you, then it might be possible, but then you are already into it pretty good

ok im like on the verge of getting an m50 manifold conversion kit and i have 1 thing to get straight before i do it:

As i understand, i would not need any tuning after i install the m50....correct?

im pretty positive i have dinan stg 4 software in my car becuase i have the intake and high flow throttle body and whole bunch of other dinan ish. and I have dinan stickers under my hood....

i may sound like a total doofus, but how can i check if i have the software.........

You're saying personal driving style overrides the widely-accepted laws of physics? I'm done with this thread.
