free beer huh? what kind? ale, stout, porter?

It's also supposed to flow better by how much if you happen to know?

i don;t know how much more it flows.

it's designed to work with a different clutch so any calculation of how much it flows would not be accurate.

it does push more air, you can feel and hear that with the engine running. the angle of the blade is more aggressive.

added bonus: you need to remove the upper rad hose to get the old fan out, you do not need to remove that hose to get this one on.

you may think that's not worth much but to me it is. that means that the fan can be removed for easy belt changes, front of engine access etc without draining down the radiator at all.

i can remove/install the fan w/o removing anything else :clueless:

that said, euro diesel fan ftw.

edit: except the alternator cooling duct

Same here. I can't decide which route to go, delete fan completely and add spal fan or get the euro diesel :hmm:

imo, if you're competing and every whp counts (also assuming it's not a daily driver), go with the fdm.

taken from another recent thread (http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=310649&page=2):

"i've ran both stock and fdm (w/spal fan) set-up and did pretty extensive data logging. all things constant besides the the type of fan, you will see higher average temps and a wider range of temps (deviation) with an electric fan if fans are the main source of pushing air through the radiator (not sustained speeds >20 mph). mechanical fan does a better job at keeping the temps around the thermostat opening point with less deviation.

with an electric fan, temps can reach up to the high end of the switch 88*C then cool back down to 80*C. repeat.

with a mechanical fan, the viscous clutch design doesn't allow the temp to creep that high. temps were right around the thermostat opening point (80*C) with less deviation.

you can get an electric fan (on/off) to somewhat simulate a viscous clutch (variable) type by picking up one of these:

if peace of mind is what you're looking for the euro diesel fan is what i'd recommend... in addition to checking your water pump and motor/tranny mounts often.

i'm currently running the euro diesel w/ steward water pump and refreshed engine and tranny bushings.
