I'm not against amrests but I am against armrests that fall down during hard braking maneuvers. Gonna delete that thing one day.

This makes total sense in a daily driver.

Truth. I bought a Personal steering wheel two years ago and made the mistake of getting suede. I think it took about 2-4 months of everyday use for it become completely deteriorated.

Of course you can back it up and say driving gloves solve the problem. Sure, but the thing is, I really don't want to put on a pair of gloves every time I need to drive somewhere. That and it looks a bit ridiculous. Easy solution, don't buy suede/alcantara if your gonna drive your car every day.

I was thinking the same thing. I think its a wonderful shifter.

Yikes. Your pores must be excreting sulfuric acid or the quality of the material used is pretty awful. Daily driver here as well... Regular cleanings/brushing and my steering wheel, shift knob, boots, arm rests and trim are all still like new...

mmmkay I see at least 5 demerits with that pic. Dove grey, alcantara, broken tweeter trim, no radio, no tilt, 11 button obc, missing a-pillar, leaning clutch pedal, working horn?, oil temp even work?!! ;P

LOL you know I kid Tom no hate here. . You get it all back for having a proper shifter setup. Extra cred if new BW or AKG designs.

You forgot wrong screw and no cover for the screw securing his lower trim panel below the steering wheel.

But yes, AKG race shifter. No radio because theres no speakers left in the car lol.

I'd like to invite one of these OCD guys over for the weekend and lock them up in my barn. It needs a good reorganization and cleaning.

I think you're over estimating how much work it actually is to keep it up. I wipe mine down with a moist cloth maybe once a month, literally takes 90 seconds and most of that time is spent getting a rag and running it under water.

And how long have these materials been in your car? 2-3 years at the absolute most? Certainly not since 2002, because by now they would definitely need replacement.

Actually under a year. But the gentleman stating his lasted 3-4 months is just ridiculous....

There are plenty of ZCP cars on here with original steering wheels that look just fine

Sorry, but anyone who is bare handing alcantara (even the genuine stuff), has a part that is degrading. Most original ZCP wheels today look like absolute garbage. It's a joke what you see used on eBay for insane prices... hell even on this board people are seriously delusional about condition.

This is a 100k mi ZCP wheel that was CAKED in dead skin before I got to it. While it "looks just fine" you can clearly see balling of the alcantara (meaning the threads have pulled apart and balled together). Constant cleaning does more harm to Alcantara than good. Only gloves prevent the wear.

This was my 3+ year old wheel that was absolutely immaculate and truly like new because it was never touched without gloves.

Another identical purchased new wheel on my E36 M3 I sold at 4 years old had 50k+ miles on it and looked no different than new. Again, gloves every second.

If looks just fine is suitable for you, then great.
