It seems that way for a lot of the MSS60 Tunes, unfortunately even custom tuning options aren't great, and who wants to keep paying $1k per tune to find out.Originally posted by EthanolTurbo View PostAlpineMSS makes shitty tunes, not surprised in the least. His ego is 10x his actual tuning ability.
There aren't many options for an off the shelf long tube header tune with a forward placed X pipe. With the improvements Alex made in 2021 for those of us that had problems with the Forward X-pipe, it has been better than most other tunes, better than the BPMSport Stage 2 I had before, I even sent Mike logs after purchasing the logging software he recommended, there was clearly a bog/hesitation issue but he said no improvements could be done. I was willing to pay for a tune revision but he wasn't willing to make any changes. That led me to AlpineMSS at the time.
I'm not really interested in paying again for another tune, or a boatload for custom tuning.
I have issues with other tuners, I've worked on cars that wouldn't throw misfire codes when there was clearly an issue and wasn't running right, flashed back to stock and found misfire codes that led to a bad coil, which means that tune was not detecting misfires which is bad for the motor and it's how motors blow.
At Least I know my AlpineMSS tune detects misfires which I had a bad coil, it atleast throws temp warnings when the car gets too hot on track, since I did the do88 cooling pack, I don't get those anymore, but I heard some tunes don't throw those temperature warnings, which again could lead to damaged motors.
Just some back ground, I'm an HPDE instructor and run time trials events, over 20+ track days last year in the M3, a bit less this year since I got a fully caged Spec E9X car, but i've already done 10 days in the M3 so far this year and plan to do a few more.
Basically the car gets driven hard on Alpine's tune and I feel safer knowing the ECU protections aren't disabled like other tunes.....even if it doesn't make the most power, or his "tuning ability" is often questioned but those throwing shade but have no proof of anything or better examples.

First, I want to say that going to AlpineMSS is like going to that restauraunt where they treat you like shit on purpose, and being ok with it. Their customer service and attitude is by far the worst in the industry.Originally posted by tdott View PostJust some back ground, I'm an HPDE instructor and run time trials events, over 20+ track days last year in the M3, a bit less this year since I got a fully caged Spec E9X car, but i've already done 10 days in the M3 so far this year and plan to do a few more.

Second, I've got plenty of better options you can peruse. Randy@Epic does a really great proven track tune for E9x M3's. And Bend Calibration tuned my friend's E92 M3 that runs a 1:47 at Buttonwillow which is way, way faster than you and I are going... so yes, those are two easily accessible, better options but you yourself said you don't want to spend more money getting a tune.

After working on several cars with Epic tunes and seeing them not throw misfire codes. I would never run one.Originally posted by EthanolTurbo View PostRandy@Epic does a really great proven track tune for E9x M3's.
I've also helped several other owners troubleshoot their issues.
Never heard of Bend.
