BTW, if anyone has a used factory e46 M3 coupler and would be willing to donate to this cause or sell at a reasonable price, please let me know. I will not be able to take apart my car for a few weeks, but a used coupler would allow me to measure and compare.

Unfortunately that looks like it won't work, mostly because of the connection on the steering shaft side (although it seems to be clocked differently too). This is what the E46 M3 coupler looks like where it connects to the steering shaft:

I noticed that before, but that can easily be rectified. I am more concerned with the clocking difference you mention.
