    Weighted and illuminated shift knobs

So I’ve been trying to find a broomstick knob that’s not only illuminated, but also weighted and in alcantara. Anyone know of someone that can create this?

Please don’t suggest the m5 one.. I’m not a fan of the shorty style knob.

You could make your own out of an illuminated knob and a weighted one (25117896884 or similar) following a similar process to the one shown here: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...ZHP-shift-knob

Me either, but there is a taller weighted one as well (which is not lighted). I had swapped mine out when I got my car because I didn't like the one piece knob/boot combo. I drove for a long time with the euro lighted assembly and I scoured etk for a weighted illuminated knob to no avail. The problem is the plaques are different as well for both variants.

Heinz already gave you the part number for one of the few (if not only) standard height, weighted knobs BMW makes. Then add the cost of rewrapping in alcantara and swapping the illumination and plaque from a new or used F10 M5 shift knob. No one makes this and the cost is quite high to do it properly.

The E60 M5 Knob isn't really a shorty imo, the ZHP most certainly is, I would be doing a conversion to allow for illumination of the E60 knob if that's possible.

Best way to do this would be using an E9X M3 broomstick because it has an LED board for illumination and they don't bleed out like the older units do.

Then just have a good upholsterer do their thing.

I have to say though, alcantara on a shift knob is bold, it's gonna look terrible in a few months haha

The shop that did my manual swap gave my an alcantara boot although I asked for a leather- I've been eyeing some leather boots for a while now but to be honest the alcantara boot hasnt worn at all in the past 4 years since. Its not like its the steering wheel which is constantly getting touched

Yea but you don't touch a shift boot. You touch a shift knob in a manual vehicle.

That thing is gonna be so gross lmfao

Everyone has different hygiene. None of the alcantara pieces over the last decade+ have become a mess. While Im all too sure its easy for most to be dirty, alcantara can last years without becoming gross or lose its aesthetics

If you're on top of cleaning and keeping your hands super clean or wearing gloves I think it would be fine.

It's just another thing you have to maintain haha.

Do what I said however, that will be the easiest way to get what you want. Sans the weight.

It's right there in his post (weighted leather stock height, not shorter style, and you have to get it rewrapped and install light and emblem as stated in the previous post):
