CSL snorkel flap no longer working after SMG to manual swap

I recently had my M3 converted to a manual and everything for the most part is perfect. The work was done by a reputable shop in OC California.

This past weekend I pushed the car a little harder and the car felt 50 or so hp down on power. The sound as well sounded muted. After checking the snorkel I noticed the flap is not opening when it should (3300 rpm). Is there something in a smg to manual conversion that can cause the flap to not be active?

i just ran the MSS5X binary tool and noticed the disable csl flap was selected. I unchecked it and reflashed but it doesn’t look to make a difference.

    Has anyone encountered this?

Did you check that the TPS and flap motor cables are fully connected? They would have had the flap control unit off during the swap. Also, that check box only disables the error code for the flap, not the flap itself. And check the flap control tab to make sure it is set to default - 3300 RPM flap open in sport mode.

Yep. I checked to confirm tps sensor and flap motor connections are good. I even swapped the tps sensor with another one. I also confirmed under sport mode the rpm are set at 3300.

Try re-running the flap test via Tool32.

I just gave that a try and I get the following message with job status ok. However I don’t hear the motor at all.

          Should I see something else?

Should be able to manually actuate the flap motor with a 12V battery.

              Run it twice.

Do you have any codes logged?

I tried running it multiple times and no I don’t have any codes. Which makes this harder to diagnose 🙁

to run a job I just click on “adapt_geraeuschklappe”. Do I do anything else? also, I’m running this off SGBD group MSS54DS0. Is that right?

Correction: I have 3 error codes that I don’t think are causing my issue. But in case they are, here are the 3:
                  80 schalterkette kraftschluss
                  1 relais kraftstoffpumpe
                  18 gks-treiber

                  appreciate any help!

I've seen that "80 switch chain frictional connection (schalterkette kraftschluss)" associated with an incorrect, or missing, clutch sensor post smg to manual conversion. Does your cruise control work? Correct part number is 61319122700

I haven’t tested cruise control yet as I never use it. Do you think that might be causing my csl flap not to work?

I can't answer that one. I'm not familiar with the intricacies of the CSL box/flap setup as I'm supercharged but I'm sure someone else will chime in. I just remembered seeing a bunch of posts about the clutch switch since so many people have ended up with the incorrect one in the last few months as the correct part is evidently hard to get a hold of at the moment. One of the signs of the incorrect part is your cruise control won't work.

Also here is a link to the diy thread for wiring and sensors concerning the flap:

Well here is my DIY attempt at converting my wiring to OEM CSL after replacing my MSS54 with a Terra Modified MSS54HP. I have an OEM CSL Airbox with Flap and all OEM ducting etc.. Starting to untangle the mess LOL..... http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b96/ejazsharif/DARTH%20VADER/CSL%20MAP-IAT-FLAP%20wiring/IMG_0840.jpg
