    E46 VS E46 M3 Aux Fan

Anyone know if there are any differences? They look the same but the one for the m3 i can only find genuine for like $600. Rock auto shows the part number for the regular 3 Series will work which i can get aftermarket for under $200. Anyone aware if this will work?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but a quick glance at RealOEM shows two different part numbers. 17117561757 for the non-M and 64546988914 for the M3. The biggest difference appears to be the shroud; not sure if the fan itself is the same. Hopefully someone else can chime in with a definitive answer.

Shroud is different and won't work without modification, but you can swap just the fan into the M3 shroud.

Could also use the aux fan failure as an excuse to ditch both stock fans and do a Spal conversion for ~$250 including brackets. I’ve been running a 2082 hooked up to an aux fan controller that I salvaged all year with no issues including in traffic and on track. Just modify the DME fan curve so it turns on 100% by like 85C. I made a thread in coding and tuning and got good answers about how to do it.

I was gonna wait until i upgrade my radiator to do that, probably next year. Just need a replacement for now

There are no radiator upgrades, stock is best.

Sadly it appears both the E46 and the E46 fans are now the same price:

                64546988914 Pusher Fan E46 M3

This thread could be combined with, https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/m...ful-sealed-fan cheaper, better, if you can DIY. Even if you don't, so many resource's are available to get you through it!

Get a used shroud from Mparts... shouldn't be more than $100.

                      z4m > m3 > 330, z4m's have the most powerful stock fan.

Are you running a Z4M fan or a Spal unit?

I didn't see the Z4M fan mentioned as a solution in this the thread link you posted: https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/m...ful-sealed-fan

I'm pretty sure a non-M fan won't fit on a M radiator because an M radiator is not as tall - because oil cooler.

True but you can swap the shroud. This was only of use when the non-M fan was much cheaper than the M version.

I am running a spal unit, bc of the price point. However, as far as oem fans go, the z4m fan is the most powerful oem option. To what you are saying about shrouds, fans, pricing, you are correct. I'm curious to see what a Z4M fan is going for, I'd imagine a lot more. P#17427542912
