    It needs to make farts and pops for it to sound like a true sports car

      why let their halo performance car leave the factory sounding like that if another $50 resonator fixes 80% of the problem with no loss in power?

        Am I the only one here without strong feelings on the rasp? 🤷‍♂️

        It does sound really weird from outside the car. If I had to replace the stock exhaust for some reason other than sound, 100% chance I'd get something that reduces the rasp (all else equal).

        At the same time, I don't listen to my car from the outside, and I don't mod to impress anyone who would. If it sounds okay from inside the car, I don't think I'd care enough to mod.

          That actually is an interesting question-- especially as they added a resonator to ONE pipe the USA section1 and left the other alone. I suspect they maybe wanted some rasp? I can't think of any other reason to do that.

          Clearly they thought 0 resonators was too much rasp, since they added one :P

            I think that is a fairly representative idea of the sound. You always lose some depth on video though. But if that is "simply awful noise" as you say then this is probably just another example of the divisiveness of the s54 rasp.
            One thing I can say tho... Is if you just slap a section 3 on a Eurosetup... It sounds Great.

            I know this..I have Euro headers, Euro Cats and OE 2 and Oakville Scorza. Really pleased with a factory Catted setup.

            Stick a section 3 on a bone stock US car and congratulations you have a Honda civic now

              Euro spec has no resonators other than in sec 2 (like u.s.) AND the cats, though longer and in sect 1, were only 200 cell not 400 cell.

              Still an interesting decision. Having had both u.s. stock setup and euro setup, euro makes more power (duh) and sounds incredible. Stock euro setup with just an RDsport (racing dynamics, very similar to ss street or old remus or hamann [ss made]) is the greatest sounding setup I ever heard (from the driver's seat). I added an Eventuri and I should have just stopped there in all honesty (esp being in CA with smog rules).

                Yah. I’m pretty happy with the euro setup on my “stock” m3 (wagon).

                  Times are different. That was likely the sound they were going for. It is a fairly unique sounding car. A sound I was always drawn to about the car. Now tards think if it doesn't burble and pop is doesn't sound good. If all it required was a simple tune why not make it burble and pop.

                    Always enjoyed the sound stock, or with an intake. I like the rasp, it is unique.

                      I do not care for the burble tunes and that whole current trend. It's a symptom of an inefficient and poor tune in my eye.

                      I remember I was working a track day at Brainered Int'l Raceway, prepping some SRFs (and even SRRs for the really old guys) for customers when the E46 M3 came out, and there was an LSB one I was really excited to watch. I positioned myself at track out onto the main straight next to the wall they do the trophy ceremonies in front of so I could catch the sound bouncing off of it. The first time it went by I was very disappointed, because all the other BMWs I heard had sounded so good.

                      Point being that it's not that I want it to sound like a turbo that farts and sounds like gunfire, I've thought it was a terrible exhaust for 20+ years.

                        So now we’re in agreement that it takes $50 to “fix” the sound and not $5,000. Welcome back to sanity!

                          I personally like the stock exhaust a lot. The rasp might not be the best exhaust tone out there but it’s unique and exotic in its own way. Many legendary straight 6’s have a raspy tone like the Jaguars and Aston Martins from the 60’s. The rasp + intake note is a very good combo. And way more unique then V8s, V6s or even modern turbocharged straight 6s. Just my 2 cents.

                            think you "got me" huh?

                            I mentioned the $50 part fixed 80% of the issue, not make it go away.

                            The post I was responding to, and I think even quoted, talked about a rasp terminator section 1 and an airbox. that's a $5k proposition.

                                Looks like I'm in the minority here;

                                I enjoyed the stock exhaust note quite a lot as well; But wanted a bit more of "volume", so I went ahead and picked up a modified stock section 3 from a forum member (m3forum).

                                Basically same modification was done as the one shown in the video below;
