    Cold start issue

    Hey guys,
For quite some time I’ve noticed my car doesn’t always start up on the first try. I would crank the car once, turn it off, try again and then it would start.

I recently replaced my fuel pump with a brand new OEM unit and a new battery. The car currently has 72k miles.

    Attached is a video.

    I would have the :
    Ignition switch.
    starter.
crank position sensor; on my suspect list.

    Pull some codes first.

Try to prime the pump a few seconds to build more fuel pressure before crank the engine.

Sounds fuel related to me, especially since you just touched the fuel pump. Did you have this issue before the replacement?

What did you replace? Did you replace the whole carrier unit with a new one from BMW?

The corrugated hose that connects the pump to the carrier is very easy to mangle if you just replace the pump. This makes it not seal perfectly and leak fuel pressure when the car sits, thus requiring multiple start attempts before the pump rebuilds enough pressure to start the engine.
