    Rod bearing clearance checking

So, yes I have searched but I can't find any good answer.

When replacing the rod bearings, is there only 1 OEM option? Am I supposed to be checking clearances or just replacing them?

I am coming to terms with my 100k mile service and want to make sure I order the right parts. Take my money FCP!

Many options, take your standard clearance pick. I'm going with ACL race, WPC treated this time around. Check clearances with plastiguage.

So if you plasti gauge and it's not right, you go ahead and install it anyway cause there's only one option? Haha

Plastigauge is to measure the bearing to the crank journal. If its not right, you just use different shell.

BMW sells +.001 bearings if you’re beyond the spec.

Lol pretty much. Its to ensure there isn't something fundamentally wrong with journal or rod dimensions. Swapping shells on a new standard bearing set won't yield a difference in measurement with plasti gauge (the plasti gauge lacks that kind of fidelity with the 4th decimal place). If you discover a difference that would necessitate oversized bearings, first you'll need to carefully inspect everything (to determine why) and then consider going with appropriate shells to tighten it back to within spec. This would be more unusual than usual. So do the plasti guage for peace of mind and this group can help if you discover something out of spec.

There are different sizes but it is unlikely you will need them. You can mix and Match sizes with standard to get a perfect clearance. You plastiguage because it is easy to do and confirms everything is to spec and that the bearings you bought are what you bought,
