    Oil leak & miscellaneous ??

This car is a recent purchase and my first M3. I was looking under the car and I saw some oil on the skid plate so I took them off for further inspection. Upon doing so I saw a leak from the CPV, which I went ahead and replaced. After the clean up I drove about 100 miles and then I inspected again and I then found more oil leaking but this time not from the CPV.

Below I have attached photos and if anyone could offer up their opinion on where they think its coming from it would be greatly appreciated.

I also attached pictures of what I think might be a missing bolt, maybe someone can confirm that.

Looks like engine oil, and that you're also missing one bolt for the corner of the oil sump. That oil leak could be the RMS or a myriad of other things..

Since you've addressed the CPV, it could really only be a rear main seal, exhaust cam sensor o-ring or valve cover gasket. Others chime in if I'm forgetting something.

The missing oil pan bolt suggests to me that the oil pan gasket could be leaking due to mis-torqued pan bolts.
Follow the leak looking for an upwards and forwards trail.

The oil is concentrated in that area. It doesn't seem to be coming from higher up. I am assuming it is the rear main seal at this point.

The oil pan gasket has been changed (previous owner) so I am assuming he lost a bolt. I will source a new one.

How about the oil filter housing seal? And what’s the life of a rear main seal. I have the same scenario with the exception of the missing bolt.

Is the bolt missing, or is it broken off? Hard to tell from the pic.

Then definitely replace and re-torque the whole thing. If the threads are not stripped.
