    GearMotive Dogbox Going In

    GearMotive (https://GearMotive.com/en) is a precision machining and transmission manufacturing company headquartered in Sievi, Finland which specializes in race car gearbox and gear manufacturing. Race car gearboxes differ from normal manual transmission designs to handle greater power and torque. In addition, the gears of racing dogbox gearboxes can be shifted without a clutch. Clutch less shifting allows quicker, more robust gear shifting.

GearMotive has focused on ZF dogbox transmission production to serve customers around the world. Historically, Toyota transmissions have also been popular GearMotive products.

    Product designing and manufacturing at GearMotive is an extensive process. This process begins with customer supplied specifics, including the car and engine model, current and potential future power and torque figures, as well as competition class regulations. When the necessary information is compiled, the gearbox design begins. Modeling gears and gear shafts in 2D and 3D simplifies the process for precise machining. The final crucial process prior to assembly is heat treatment, grinding and final finishing.           • Fits to housings: ZF S5D-260Z, S5D-310Z and S5D-320Z
          I'm doing the long set. Truly will be a 5-speed transmission now.

            The maiden voyage at Mid-Ohio last weekend with the GearMotive (https://gearmotive.com/en/product/bm...-speed-dogbox/) dogbox 5-speed was a complete success and an absolute brilliant design. The up & downshifts are lightning fast. I chose to use the clutch on all downshifts and about 1/3 of the upshifts, moving to clutchless upshifts as the weekend progressed with more mileage on the box. They click off like a fine bolt-action rifle. I screwed up and had no video card in the AIM Smarty Cam. I'll try to get some video from Road America in October.

            The breather vent line with a small air filter atop the vent line will be switched to a small vented catch can for easier and cleaner use. We didn't have the transmission fluid cooler hooked up because yours truly ordered the incorrect fittings for the ZF case drain/fill plugs but no issues. Said fittings and cooler will be completed this week with new Motul fluid.

            It was really nice not having any issues with high RPM downshifts, notably 4th to 3rd, from the stock ZF 5-speed. The sound, well it's a bit like a jet engine on track. Ear plugs are a must even inside my helmet with ear cups. 🏁
