I am looking for some photos of a carbon box in 1x1 plain weave? I literally cannot find a single one on the whole internet! Does anyone have a photo of a 1x1 air box by any chance? Just curious how it looks under the hood.

I'm pulling the trigger on my CSL airbox this week from Karb and I'm absolutely torn. I went with 1x1 plain on everything but was considering doing the airbox in 2x2 to keep the CSL theme alive.

Since I did the Karb engine cover and cabin filter cover in 1x1 I may just go with the same for the airbox. Still on the fence.

The bootlid is not CF, but sheet moulding compound (SMC). For those really nerdy CSL fans out there, the airbox manufacturer made a short run of CF bootlids and vented hoods in 1x1 CF.

FYI...CFRP - carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The plastic refers to the matrix in which the carbon fiber fabric is suspended - typically epoxy. A guess here...BMW likely primed them because of manufacturing defects and they were a painted part. A roof is relatively simple to manufacture. A trunk is a molded in two parts and then bonded together.

But not sure what the CSL trunk was made of...I assumed it was CF.

SMC is stated in the CSL tech doc. Having seen a few unpainted ones in person, it is definitely a glass-fiber compound - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheet_moulding_compound. They most likely primed it to get it ready for paint and give it a uniform look. Euro bumper came primed from the factory as well.

I ordered the 1x1 plain airbox and snorkel. Keeping it clean with 1x1 on everything I put on the car.

1x1 weave is more difficult to create angles with and 2x2 twill is easier due their crossing patterns. That said karbonius does an excellent job and you'll be happy either way. For me personally I'm modeling everything after the CSL.
