Buildjournal B-Spec Tune Review? / Megan Headers

I've read a lot of positive reviews of this tune online. Does anyone run this tune on here and care to share their thoughts?

I just bought some Megan Racing headers and was planning on running some sort of tune when done with install.

Should I go for the Build Journal? or should I go with a dyno tune not an out of the box tune..

Just push the "sport" button on after install.

    I kid.

Depends what you're looking to get out of it.

9/10 a 'generic' tune will never be better than a dyno tune (Assuming a competent tuner)

I don't think the tune should cost more than the headers

I have the Megan headers with the Buildjournal tune. To be honest, I can't say that the difference is night and day in terms of power. It does feel like the torque doesn't drop off as much at higher RPM, but again, it doesn't feel a huge difference. I think it is harder for me to perceive the smaller changes in HP due to constantly riding in my friend's boosted cars lol. I didn't want to invest in a dyno tune because I plan to go FI at some point so it wouldn't be financially worth it for me. At the end of the day, I am happy with my purchase and the guys at Buildjournal were very responsive and great with their service.

Get a tune from Hassan - HTE Performance (Instagram or FB) it around the same price. Saw a lot of people having trouble with BJ on M3F before it went down.

Can’t exactly remember but I think different people had hesitation and idle issues.

The peanut gallery is chiming in here 🤪.... I seem to remember from M3F some fellas were experiencing a rich A/F mixtures (recycled PowerChip tune from the old days 😳🤪 perhaps? Just kidding!) and I seem to remember one fella stating Bld Jrnl botched his the tune, meaning the customer did not want run-on burbles but received it; this customer tried one or more times to get the tune straightened out but here was no satisfactory resolution I seem to recall. I’m guessing there is more, but I can’t remember the balance of details in that old fread.

Yeah that was one of them. But for sure there was several of them with different issues.

I have had the BuildJournal tune on my car for close to a year. My car is pretty much stock. I Didn’t really notice any power gains which I didn’t expect since my car is stock. I Mainly wanted some of the features they offered. My car runs fine, haven’t had any issues with that. They were fine from a customer service perspective, only thing was I asked for a raised idle since I have poly mounts and wanted to reduce vibrations on idle, but they never raised it. I confirmed it when I discovered Martyn’s EcuWorx tool recently added the option where you can raise the idle and I noticed my BuildJournal tune is still at the stock idle settings. Had I known about EcuWorx back then I would’ve just bought that license instead of the build journal tune since I didn’t notice much in terms of power and I can make my own changes with EcuWorx.

I had the Buildjournal tune on my car for about a year too. Recently moved to stock CSL tune because of an airbox install. Bj was fine except for it would dip a bit too low at idle (500-600 rpm) when the ac compressor came on.

I have this set up with Megan headers (ceramic coated) second resonator installed in my section 1 and El Diablo section 3....it’s amazing.

Tune did exactly what I wanted (caught it during a Black Friday sale).

customer service was pretty great too. I would recommend. I’ve had zero issues!

I though maybe the idle issue was the car but my new engine is doing exactly what my last one did. Occasionally a misfire at idle. It's literally identical. They did raise my idle so I think may have just screwed that up. They are people prone to mistakes. I would suggest them for a budget tune. One thing I noticed is my exhaust pops like crazy if I keep my foot slightly on the gas during deceleration. There is absolutely no way this is stock because it's crazy. Doesn't sound artificial like all the 335 tunes though. It sounds natural but my exhaust has accrued some cracks. Titanium doesn't hold up to popping.

BuildJournal is junk, get a real custom tune. HTE or Paul Claude would be my suggestions.
