bmw pulled the R53 battery from their parts bin and put it on the CSL, you get a slight drop in weight in exchange for a slight drop in capacity. Some argue that the tradeoff isn't worth it but it's popular because it was specd by bmw

...for AGM. You can also get a Duracell (East Penn) AGM H5 at Sam's for $170.

If you don't want AGM, you can get a normal wet cell H5 for $109 at Sam's (Duracell) or Home Depot (Exide), or $120 at Wal-Mart.

The original H6 size is about the same price as the H5.

Optima is a waste of money and time.

Which would have been fine when you could use a 25% off coupon on batteries at Advance. The exact same battery is available at WalMart for less, with different stickers. They're both made by Johnson Controls, same specs, same warranty.

Anybody running the Interstate H5 battery from Costco? Almost $50 less than the Diehard equivalent. Only drawback is that interstate is a little heavier at 39lbs vs 32lbs

It will be fine. I'd bet there's almost no weight difference.

I've been running the Shorai 36ah battery for over a year now. Lifepo4, 4.5lbs. If you don't have a huge sound system that you listen to for hours without car on, it works great. Can sit for a month without charger and starts right up. Can be found $250-300. Doesn't have antigravity circuitry to shut off to preserve charge, but I hook it up to a charger when I know car will sit.

I had a Champion H7 battery in for only 2 years, then ran into the issue (possible?) with power drain with the BlueBus module (there was a firmware fix), but with capacity and power being higher on my priority than weight savings, I picked up a Interstate H7 AGM from Costco - no issues for the past couple of months.

Hey, thanks for sharing your battery experience! It's always helpful to hear about others' choices. I had a power drain scare too, and it turned out to be a firmware issue. It's great to hear the Interstate H7 AGM from Costco has been working well for you. Have you looked into a battery group size chart? I found it super useful when picking out a replacement.
