SMG Pump Inlet Red Retaining Ring

Had to tow the car home (thankfully for only the 2nd time in the last 16 years) because the SMG dropped me out of gear on the road and refused to engage. Scanned the car and saw SMG 23/Solenoid Valve Clutch errors which were static (after clearing, the car would change gears, but as soon as I tried to drive off it'd drop back out to neutral). Of course I ordered a replacement solenoid before tearing it down, but looks like the hydraulic fluid supply line popped out of the pump inlet (which should be held down by the red retaining ring). It has a small piece missing from the exposed lip (which im not sure should actually make a difference because the actual body of the retaining ring seems intact).

Has anyone had any luck sourcing a replacement? I've already poured through mcmaster, and the closest things I'm finding are push connect fittings for air/water. Or should I just zip tie it down and call it a day?

Possibly used? I know a lot of people part out smg parts during conversions

Used is the only route. BMW doesn't and never did sell any part of the hydraulic pump assembly separately.

Edit: Also I never could locate a viable replacement in the aftermarket

This is the piece you are referencing. What you listed on McMaster could work but you would just have to order.

I have access to different size SMC pneumatic fittings in different sizes (mostly Metric for 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm tubing) and I can disassemble the right tubing size and send you the part if I find one with the right length to match your system. I need to know the OD of your tubing and the length of the lock ring as per picture. Click image for larger version

Appreciate the responses here! I ended up taking the lazy route and using a tie to hold the hose down - there's an o-ring inside the pump that provides the seal, the clip only holds it down.

OP: I think you were onto something. This part from McMaster Carr seems to be what we're after: 5472K105

The problem I see though is I'm not convinced that part is going to stand up to the heat or withstand the oil. I tossed the one I bought in some used CHF11 and I'm going just let it sit for awhile... The one thing I do find interesting is looking at the MLR Engineering SMG pump pan, they use a similar setup but it's gray in color. After talking with them about this issue, they made it sound like the component we need isn't really available. That said, I'm fairly confident the part above should work but I guess we'll see.

This seems to be another option with a higher operating temperature: Parker Hannifin 6306 10 00WP2 LIQUIfit Polymer Body Union Connector Fitting, 10 mm Push-to-Connect Tube x 10 mm Push-to-Connect Tube

Some additional research on materials leads me to believe either of these solutions would be ok for our application...

That one has a higher operating temp and specifically states chemical resistant that the one I bought from McMaster Carr.

From what I can tell, if you get a copolymer thermoplastic, it should be capable of handling chemicals including hydrocarbons and fuels:

They rate acetal plastics as “Good” for hydrocarbons and fuels:
