Occupancy sensor for aftermarket seats.

I just picked up a mint set of evo x recaro seats (sr-11 recaros). I just wondering how people go about making sure the air bags deploy in case or an accident. Is there a way to code or trick the occupancy sensor to be activated at all times. Or do I just get the occupancy sensor pad and retrofit it into the seat. Also is it only for the passenger seat or both driver and passenger. Thanks I’m advance for any advice or help

Pretty sure by default both airbags go off. By adding a sensor you are telling it not to go off unless there's someone there. Just code the light out and you're done.

I bought a 2nd hand seat base, pulled the sensor mat and occupancy sensor module from that and transferred it to my Cobra Nogaro, but could not get rid of the seat belt/air bag light in the cluster and INPA error code. Then fitted my OEM original seat module and same thing. So I gave up on that and coded out the occupancy module in the SRS Airbag module. It has 2 lines for 2 occupancy sensors. However NCS Expert refused to accept the modified file with only 1 occupancy sensor line coded disabled, I had to tick the box for disable on both line for NCS Expert to accept the modified file and for the cluster light to operate normally.

I wonder if I got a duff sensor mat from the 2nd hand seat, so unless you get a new module & mat I'm not sure I'd bother and just code it out. I see you can get a dummy load to plug into the module to save you from coding too.

Coding it out is sufficient— the airbag will function. The downside to not having an occupancy sensor is that the car assumes you always have a passenger – so the airbag on the passenger side will go off even when the seat is vacant, making crashes more expensive.

Do occupancy sensors not work on a shell-based seat because the shell-seat lacks a box spring and can't sense when there's a butt in the seat? Also, how do they actually work? I would have expected the sensor to be a plunger style switch like interior light / door switches on cars from the 80's and 90's. But from the pics I've seen of the BMW occupancy sensor, that doesn't seem to be the case.
