I have owned a total of 3 E46Ms now; first two being garage queens. My most recent one I purchased I decided to make my DD. I love the balance of the E46 in comparison to the E36 vs. E92. You can never have a bad day in the E46 ///M.

Awesome, unfortunately my 996 GT3 now needs an engine rebuild, it's so sad to see it in the garge a paperweight.

Beautiful car, I think the 996 GT3's & Turbos are aging well.

Sorry to hear that, it is pretty rare, Mezger engines are known for their reliability. What happened?

Not sure, my dad and I do an open road race each year here in Nebraska and at the end the car was misfiring badly.

I got home and started looking around and found cylinder 5 spark plug had bent electrodes and almost all the porcelain insulation had come apart inside the cylinder. Cylinder 5 failed terribly in a leakdown, it's leaks both into the crankcase and out of the exhaust valves.
There is borescore in cylinder 5 from the debris and the head and/or valves likely have an issue as well.
Cylinder 4 also had the same thing happen in regards to the spark plug, but leakdown test went fine. Both cylinders 4/5 have the tops of the pistons absolutely peppered with the debris.

I can only assume a pre-detionation event happend for some reason. We have only 91 octane here in Nebraska and I question it's quality, that car wants 93.

The vehicle only has 28k on it and has been babied it's entire life so its very strange. It's going to be LONG time before I can afford the 25-30k price of a rebuild.

To match the GT3, you need a non-metallic color like Imola Red or Laguna Seca Blue!

Just added a low mileage 2001 4Runner to the fleet. Hard to believe the 3rd gen 4Runner is almost 25 years old. This will make bedding the e46 M3 down for the winter a little easier.

Not cheap but if you have to do a full rebuild might as well go for a 4L and get some crazy performance out of it.

Great colors for sure, also like interlagos blue.

Haha! I would like the look of 35’’ but the 4 cylinders engine would feel even slower…
