Other work recommendation when doing VANOS?

Pulling together my game plan and parts required for VANOS job.

Beisian oil pump disk, seals and O-rings
    Besian chain guide
    Cam bolts (Lang Racing)
VANOS Oil Supply Line - TBD, flex line?

My VANOS is sluggish but quiet - so not planning on rattle fix.

Was also wondering if I should move to electric puller fan setup while I have everything off.

    What am I missing?

Thoughts about electric fan with OEM radiator?

    Thx!

I'd add the chain tensioner (the spring/oil pressure controlled one) that presses against the chain guide.

I'll do my electric fan schpiel here. Depending on where you live and what ambient you see in stop and go in summer, a lot of guys run no mech/no replacement electric fan (just keep the aux) in 90s and even low 100s ambient. That said, your cooling system should be fresh and as VANOS is off, you have easier access to water pump and thermostat. Your OE radiator prob has some buildup and restrictions both inside the cooling veins, as well as outside in fins from leaves/bugs/dirt, so could be a good time to replace.

There will be a lot of guys posting that they run SPAL 2049 or 2082 electeoc fans for peace of mind, but some live in the desert where they actually need the extra air flow.

All jobs done as diy - clutch, rod bearings, rear subframe rebush, vanos, headers, cooling, suspension, etc.

PM for help in NorCal. Have a lot of specialty tools - vanos, pilot bearing puller, bushing press kit, valve adjustment, fcab, wheel bearing, engine support bar, etc.

Now that I’ve found the new forum I can research the stickies and DIY’s 😃

Aux fan only... interesting - I live in NH so not too much driving in 90+ weather. I suppose that’s easy one to try.

        Thx for recommendations.

I've been running aux fan only for a year or so. No issues, but this has been in places that are quite cool (CO and CA).

for the price of the rattling kit, while you are there, you might as well change them to be honest.

I'd add valve job and related gaskets. How many miles are on your car?

Thanks guys - meant to add valve adjustment part of plan, I'll need to figure out mileage on plugs, not sure if they were changed at last valve adjustment.

Car has 135K miles, but new motor courtesy of BMW 😁 at 72K miles - so about 60K on the engine.

I zero timed the cooling system at ~ 100K miles, so radiator is pretty fresh, just plan to flush the antifreeze.

I also want to research if I should be replacing idler and tensioner pulleys, not sure if those got transferred from old engine or not - going to change belt.

Sweet! Did you use the mini scotchbrite wheels or actual polish?

Make sure to get synthetic, makes it a lot quieter. Easy to top up with VANOS out of the way.
