Flip Headrests for Helmet Space!

The other day, I read something on the internet about BRZ owners flipping their front headrests to make it more comfortable when wearing a helmet. Decided to try the same thing in my car and wow, what a difference!

Here's my car's (stock) seat with the headrest in it's normal orientation:



And here it is with the headrest flipped:



I previously had to recline my seat back more than I usually would to fit properly with my helmet. With the headrest backwards, I can sit with the seat in a much more natural position.

Probably not news to some, but thought I'd share since it made a huge difference for me. It's nice to fit comfortably in the car now.



Btw, I think I have a decent understanding of why headrests are shaped the way they are, but I am no expert on the topic. I don't see why doing this (with a helmet on!) would present a safety risk, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeppers, the head rest in normal orientation forces you head forwards and causes eye muscle strain as one tends to raise the eyes to compensate.
I was tempted to flip the drivers head rest when I tracked my E30 M3 but I ended up swapping it out for a Sparco EVO 2.
I had a 5 point harness/1/2 cage and was afraid it would damage the seat reclining mechanism.
