17" Track Rims - Apex Rims

This was talked about a while back in the old Forum, but curious if people are still running this setup?

I had 18s APEX that I sold because the cost to paint them would just be the same as new wheels so I decided to just sell them and start fresh.

Now with a clean slate I want to buy properly. Since it will be for track use and not every weekend. expected 4-6 a year. I want to get the 17x10 ET25 in Black or 17X9.5 ET35 Under the Porsche kit. Tires are about $40 cheaper a corner for Nittos.

Anyone have any real world experience? I know Obioban has had this setup before.

Outside of the obvious: Lighter weight, cheaper tires, more rim protection. What can be the possible negatives?

    It was discussed here: https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/s...96-brake-setup

17x10 ET25 will fit apparently, 17x9.5 ET35 will only fit in EC-7 form.

      Less options for tires.

      That's the only negative.

I run a set of 17x10 Forgelines and they clear my Brembo GTR front kit.

Going back to my square rear CSL setup makes the car feel soooo slow haha

Significantly less tire options, and ET25 up front... which is 10mm more aggressive than I want.

The ET25 is ultimately what pushed me off of them. If there was an et35 setup that could clear a BBK, I'd still be on 17s.

I think I will stick to NT-01s. Even after years still seems to be the best "track" tire. I want something light and 17s seems to hit the ticket. But dont want to spend the extra coin for the RS series to save more weight (unless its huge I will need to check)

how come? Too aggreessive for street or in general? When I had 18x10 ET25 it was normal back then. I felt it was awesome. Im sure on 17s it would feel even better (lighter)

et25 requires a bunch of static camber to function correctly. My car has retained enough suspension geometry that I don't need ton of static camber, so it pushes me well into sub optimal territory.

I run 17x9.5 +35 Arc 8s as a street wheel. I do need to use 12mm spacers to clear my 996 brakes but I don’t mind that too much. If I had known I would have gone with the 10” wheels to begin with. I love the extra sidewall for a street wheel, especially driving over poor condition roads. One of my favorite roads goes up the side of a volcano and the pavement is heavily cracked from the earth shifting underneath it.

At some point I will probably go to an 18” street setup for better tire selection and use the 17s as track wheels.

Mt St Helens. It’s closed in the winter so this route isn’t exactly correct, I mostly drive NF-25 which is the other twisty road going south from Randle, and then there’s a turnoff to Windy Ridge.

Gotcha, I was imagining an E46 M3 driving around Mordor lol.

                    I'm like 17's ain't gonna help haha

                      Was this for spoke clearance?

Trying to move away from ET25s up front, but struggling in 17" to find anything that'll work. Bought a set of Apex ARC8 17x9.5 ET35s, but they don't clear the brakes.

Ian was your issue spoke or drum clearance?

front and back? 10 wasn't enough?

I had to run a 5mm spacer with 18x9.5 et 35 apex rims to clear spokes

There is something about 10mm spacers that doesn’t work properly, I ended up shearing more than one lug stud when I was using them. I only needed the spacer to clear the brakes in the front, but I matched it in the rear for looks as well as starting to run into clearance issues with the shock.

I believe 10s don't have hubcentric ring, and 12s do right?

I need my mtb to sell so i can justify the wheels. luckily its not in stock anyway so I can wait. Not sure about tires though
