Haven't had a chance to get under the car, I will this weekend though. Once done, I'll report back.

I'm thinking this is going to help my MPG's, I'm averaging ~19mpg and I'm not heavy on the gas pedal. I think they're related since the smell of fuel comes every now and then.

Just curious, but I noticed you mentioned that you replaced the fuel pump and sender assembly. I imagine yours either came with new "BMW Fuel Tank Sending Unit O-Ring BMW-16111184084" o-rings or you bought new ones? Also, did you use a tool to tighten the sender lock ring or just a flathead and hammer?

Really appreciate it! I'm kind of going down the exact same path even though we are throwing different codes. I replaced the fuel tank vent valve already and the light popped back up. Thinking about doing DTML next, and also these o-rings. Otherwise, I feel like I have to smoke test it which I really don't want to do lol.

I bought the kit complete from FCP Euro, it came with the OEM o-rings. I did not use the tool to tighten the sender lock ring, just a flathead and a hammer, same way I took it off. I did mark the OEM position and met that position as it starts to thread at the same exact place.

Yeah when I did my headgasket, I was under the airbox so I replaced the fuel tank vent valve with OEM and looked at all the hoses in the area, again, I didn't do a smoke test so unless it's something super microscopic I missed it. I did pinch the various hoses to see signs of dry/rot but they all looked good to me. I replaced the DTML as well behind the exhaust, checked all the hoses there but the code remains to this day. I think we're probably better off with the smoke test, I might scrap my home made one because it's a pain the ass using my bike pump, probably will bite the bullet and drop ~$100 for a brand new one.

If you needed to replace those random hoses BMW doesn't have part numbers for, where would you buy them? I'd rather just go in and replace everything so it's fresh and new.

I hope it's not the case, but I've been reading about some people who have cracked charcoal cannisters in the non-M e46 community...which I would still prefer over replacing hoses.

Wish we weren't on opposite sides of the country as it would be cool to chase this down with someone who has the same incentive. Good luck with yours, will also provide updates if I'm able to resolve mine.
