Finally got around to putting the "new" used plate in, seems to have fixed the problem. It fits a little better and I haven't had the horn go off on its own YET, so hopefully we can call it done.

My Tanik did the same, slightly more gap on right than left, although I noticed it took much more force to remove the RH side airbag plastic tang than the LH side. I may have bent the RH bracket a bit, who knows, I am leaving it.
Its all about the bracket/airbag "tang" interface, not blaming the wheel fwiw.

Mine never sat flush again after I got the airbag recall. I just got used to it.

The torx screws that you see on the sides and at the bottom is what adjust the bracket in/out and as such control the depth of the airbag position inside the steering wheel. Just screw those in a bit more, then make sure the airbag sits all the way in.

If you have to yank, just assume the bracket is bent lol. Horrendous design.

If you can release both clips at the same time with an extra pair of hands you can avoid the problem on removal but it’s highly impractical

If this wheel has the same bracket I may be able to take off the bracket, don't think they would charge much for that type of part.

I'll post back if I grab it.

Horrendous design imho. The only fool proof way to prevent this is three sets of hands. Two people to press on the clips at the same time while the other person pulls the airbag out evenly. Also be careful reinstalling the airbag as the newly recalled ones dent stupid easy above the roundel.
Good call on the extra people helping. I might try that. BTW if you have an extra one that you know is not bent, I would gladly buy one from you for a handsome price my good sir.
