Not sure if it will fit in the M3, but we just got an Evenflo revolve 360 slim for my wife's S3. I think the Evenflo would do well in the Coupe because you can buckle up your kid in the forward or side facing position, then spin it around into rear facing for the ride - VERY convenience, IMHO. We had always struggle to get our older child into a fixed position seat, especially when she was still riding rear facing. For our 2nd kid, we found this Evenflo and loves it.

We got our second boy a Maxi Cosi Pria 360. Purchased it for a month long road trip and found it to be super comfortable. More comfortable than the Safety 1st that we had for our first son. I have Recaro Pole Position seats on my M3 and I am able to squeeze it in between the buckets for some spirited runs with them. It fits inside the rear bucket nicely.

The Maxi-Cosi Pria All-in-One Convertible Car Seat for babies & toddlers has 2 removable cup holders, an adjustable harness & side impact protection. QuikFit headrest & harness system including In-and-out harness holders & ReclineFit provides 3 reclining positions. Shop now!

I turned the seat around as soon as possible-- basically after the click in phase. I'm generally of the opinion that the child car seat situation is out of control. In a couple generations we've gone from no seat belts at all to booster seats and lap belts to basically a private roll cage and 4 point for kids. I'm not arguing that the current situation isn't safer-- just that we're past the point of diminishing returns.

I have some Recaro seat that I'm not sure is sold in the USA.

You made me think of when I was kid and the restraint system was my mom giving me the stiff arm to make sure I (and my two siblings) remained in place. Also, we took family of five vacations in a 1984 98 HP Subaru two door GL. No SUV necessary. I'm not saying any of that was good or better before someone thinks I'm romanticizing days gone by, just a note about how times have changed.

We used a Britax ClickTight Boulevard Convertible seat for our kids. While sure, it fit back there, it was heavy AF and hard to get in and out of the car. I always had it on top of a towel or seat pad so it wouldn't put a mark on the leather. We generally just kept both seats in our X5 because they were so hard to move around, so if the kids went anywhere, it was generally in the "family" X5.

Once the kids were old enough, they both got upgraded to a Recaro booster seat, I had the one that was suede and looked like a little race seat. The kids loved it and it was super easy to move around between cars. I don't think they sell it anymore though.

From what I saw, the Recaro baby seats are not sold in the USA. My friend had to order them from overseas.

At one time they were sold here, we had a standard forward-facing seat in our test fleet back in 2014. Honestly, the quality was on par with the cheaper seats, with a significant upcharge for the Recaro stitching in the headrest. In comparing them back-to-back with every other seat on the market I didn't find the premium worth it, but everyone has their own priorities.

Most of the higher-end convertible seats can be a real beast, with steel frames and what have you to really hit home on the impression of safety.

The hassle and sheer weight of convertible seats are the main reasons that they stayed with my wife's car. At what age/weight/height can you start using/upgrade to booster seats?

I forget which seat we used for my daughter's first launch in back in '10. But it held her in pretty well...

For sure. They're ridiculously heavy. As for the booster, meh, I think there is some age (I think it's 4) but I just went off when they could use a seatbelt correctly with the booster, i.e. the seatbelt went over their shoulder and not across their neck. I want to say my girls were around 5 or so when they started using a booster and not the convertible.

We used the Evenflo Stratos convertible. I had either a pool noodle or a folded towel to get the correct angle, but it worked out ok. We got it as our travel seat, because it was light and easy to carry. We used it in another car rear facing then in the M front facing for at least two and a half years. My wife didn't like it, because compared to a Britax, the straps and not as smooth. I just dealt with it everyday, but it's not as refined as a Britax. Out daughter never complained though. Ok once when I pinched her leg with the buckle. Hope this helps.
