    Hawk Pad Corrosion-A Solution

I considered posting this in the detailing portion of the forum but I know enough of you run the DTC-70/60 combination or other Hawk pads from FCP Euro. The problem with Hawk pads is they seem to project an irreversible corrosion "slag" that will live forever on your wheels. After going through about 15 different products, I stumbled on a gel iron remover that will, indeed, remove these deposits. The gel allows you to let the product dwell for a significantly longer period than a typical iron remover without fear of the product drying and causing damage.

    Good luck!

It still takes a hell of a long time to get rid of the deposits if you have been running the pads for years. Ask me how I know...

Will definitely be ordering this, thanks!

Did you find you had to do various passes? I'm assuming the answer is yes because of how ridiculously stubborn those deposits are.

Unfortunately, yes, but as a point of comparison I went through about a gallon of CarPro Iron-X sitting in my driveway repeatedly trying to remove the deposits on one wheel.... This works much, much faster and is more effective "per pass" because it can attack the deposits for longer because it is in gel form. It definitely will still take some time, but ultimately the amount of product needed and the efficiency is just so much higher.

          Thanks for the recommend.
In the past, I used simple green and either plastic trim removers with the ends rounded off, or my thumb nails.
          It took ages.

Maybe I am in the minority here but I don’t really care how the wheels look on the track car. I’ll wash them the best I can. Up close they look like crap but from 10ft away look just fine.

I wouldn't use Hawk pads (especially on a track!) on a bet.

I had no issues with hawk dtc pads on track. Good initial bite and good modulation.

Only downsides are dust, and rotor life. FCP solves one of those issues.

I ran DTC-70s for one event. It rained, leading me to spend hours and hours cleaning cement off my wheels. I switched to Carbotechs, but I would love to be able to run the FCP pads. Going to give this a try, thanks!
