    SuperSprint V1 Install Questions

I'm ready to install my SS V1 stepped headers from the recent GB and thankfully I have a friend who has a spare head with gaskets and standard S54 studs with which I was able to test fit the headers. A couple of questions:

    1. I was able to get 5 full rotations of the thread with the nuts on standard s54 studs with gaskets - is this sufficient? (see pic below of test fitment). I also acknowledge I will not have the same leverage to tighten all 18 in the car the same as I do with a motor outside of the car.
    2. If 5 full rotations on the nuts is not sufficient, which manifold studs are recommended? Really hoping this isn't necessary but also want to make sure the headers are secured with no leaks.

    Thanks for any help!

Thanks - I know you've done at least one of these installs. Appreciate the insight.

I used N54 studs but that was mainly because the last time I did studs was 10 years ago lol.

As long as you don't have any leaks (looks like you won't) you're good.

I made the mistake of getting CPI headers and longer studs in 2015. Not looking forward to removing them to install stock studs and SSV1s lol

Just keep your longer E36 or N54 studs in place.

I put N54 studs in when I did Euro headers as I thought I would need them further down the line when I installed the Ssv1's, which as I learned is not the case.

It IS harder to install the SSV's (or an any header) with longer studs but is entirely possible. Especially if you have the N54's already, just keep them, at least with those you get the etorx so you can bottom them out very easily and not have to double nut it up.

Nah. They’re E36 studs and I don’t want to go thru the pain the longer studs brought when I installed the CPI headers. They’re also rusted for some weird reason.

Thanks all - seems the stock studs should be fine.

I would strongly recommend going back over and retorquing the nuts after a couple of heat cycles...a couple of them always seem to loosen up.

I read that in a previous thread - thanks for confirming this is necessary.

One more question - the SS headers didn't come with flanges on them so I assume the stock OEM flanges (headers to section 1) fit to the catted SS section 1 but hoping somebody can confirm.

No, the SS 2.5” section 1 slips over the SSV1 headers.
