OE CSL Intake Filter on Schmiedmann

Hey all, just a public info sharing.

I know the OE CSL air filter has been a bit difficult to get lately; But looks like Schmiedmann has it in stock and cheaper than most of other places online (With shipping to the states).

BMW & MINI - parts styling tuning new and used parts - Schmiedmann - New parts

Not crazy cheap but still a decent save + you can possibly bundle it up with some rare parts that are hard to find here.

Way better price here than guys here trying to gouge fellow members.

I'm tempted to buy four or five.

Can someone post the price? Looks like it's $180+tax everywhere here from the usual suspects.

So do these last in storage? Thought I remember someone here posting that theirs disintegrated after a while? Tempted to grab a few since I’m a little worried about future availability.

For storage, I'd wash off the oil with warm-hot water and dish soap, then air dry, the into an air tight container.

Yes that may help but you'll probably have to get rid of all the oil properly.

What is the life expectancy of these filters? Didn't realize they started to disintegrate. If they do that in a sealed plastic bag from the factory, then they'll most definitely in an open environment installed in the car.

Tangentially related.. I bought one of the BMC filters after reading about the Piper Cross issue where the foam was getting sucked into the engine. I bought a Karbonius/Piper Cross filter when I bought my intake from them. A few weeks back, I got an email from Karb saying that Piper Cross had identified a manufacturing defect where the foam will separate from the bracing. Piper Cross is supposed to be reaching out to all Karbonius' customers directly, but so far haven't heard anything.

Well hell, I have an extra OEM filter in packaging I bought over a year ago, maybe time to check it out.

What's a guy to do, you know these will go NLA sooner or later and I'd like not to run ITG etc.

Is this real, my Z4M came with a spare Genuine CSL filter and have in the box since I bought the car. I don't see why it would wear / age. Will check though, as it is still enclosed in the plastic bag

Mine was brand new sitting in its packaging for a year or two. as i pulled it out the rubber red part disintegrated in my hands. The oil ate away at it. and the filter was sitting in an air conditioned room.

Seems like they specced either the wrong foam or wrong oil. In either case, that sucks.

Probably best to leave it in a humid environment instead of dry, conditioned air. That's why my cigars comfortably store for decades.
