    Recent Karbonius orders

Anybody order from Karb somewhat recently? They're adding a 107 euro "fees" line item to the invoice. I don't have a line of communication with them, so I'm just asking here if that's normal. Maybe duties?

    Thanks

I think Euroconnex skips those fees. My quote from Euroconnex was about $100-150 less than direct from Karb.

A fee on top of the shipping cost already? That sucks. Last time I ordered from them was back in Feb so I didn't see that in my final invoice.

Turns out it's the paypal fee; they pass it on to the consumer fyi, but say you can wire money directly (which costs you a fee as well) to avoid their fee.

        Mystery solved, thanks.

I was going to say I never had a fee but then I always wire.

Can’t you place an order paying direct with a credit card?

Anyone know if there is a fee for using the direct credit card payment using the Karbonius site?

Yes, that's what I ended up doing, using a card that doesn't charge the typical 2-3% foreign transaction fee. I got it at 1:$1.02xxx so my 1950 euro shipped race box was $1962 iirc.

I originally placed the order with Matt/Euroconnex, but they were passing a $107 paypal fee on to me. Plus, Matt quotes in $ but the figures were actually euro, so it was even more expensive once converted, though not much with this 1 to 1 parity the dollar and euro have right now.

If you want to wire the money, I think it might be a hair cheaper with Euroconnex vs directly with Karb using a credit card.

I don't like the idea of wiring money to foreign entity, even a reputable company. I like the protections of a credit card. I actually don't like the idea of paying for a product that hasn't even been made yet, but I have no choice I guess. It'll be 8 weeks, supposedly, before I can recoup most of my $ from selling my current airbox, if I wish to keep it on the car during this 8 week period, to enjoy my car.

This isn’t a bad idea. I’ve been half heartedly trying to figure out what to do about the flap and ducting for four years. Maybe I’ll just get the race version while the Euro is cheap and sell mine.

Great, I guess that I will be going that route. I am the same way, I have been programmed to make purchases with a credit card just to ensure that the protections are there.

Wow, I am sorry to hear about your Matt/Euroconnex experience but that doesn’t surprise me. I honestly wouldn’t place an order through Matt/Euroconnex if the CSL air boxes were being sold for a $1.

On a separate note, I am ordering an CSL airbox and a CSL carbon roof since the euro/dollar exchange rates are so favorable. I want to get the parts in the same OEM CSL weave pattern and finish.

I wanted to confirm: the OEM CSL airbox uses a 2x2 weave with a gloss finish and the OEM CSL roof uses a 1x1 weave with a gloss finish?

                    BUMP

Anybody having to pay DHL for duty fees for shipment from Karbonius lately? I hear mixed answers.

I got a DHL delivery from Schmeidmann recently and there was no duty fee.

Does it have to do with country of origin? Does it have to do with the way the invoice is written - I don't mean "gift" Neither of these examples were "gifts."

I paid ~$60 in import duties after the box shipped. I also paid the normal exchange rate/CC fees and shipping costs when I placed the order. I ordered around 10 weeks ago and it showed up yesterday. DHL requested the fees over the weekend. Overall, great experience, well packaged, good communication, etc. Box looks really nice.

Same situation here. Ordered 9 weeks ago, due to deliver end of week. Just surprised since I didn't pay duties for 3 recent packages, 2 from Latvia and 1 from Germany. none marked as "gift."

Can't wait! Guess I'll pay it.

I paid duties for my Karbonius airbox but not the other CSL stuff I ordered from Schmiedmann when I got mine. No clue why one required it and the other did not.

No duties paid for either Karbonius or Schmiedman orders (within the last 2 months).
