    SMG Clutch Recalibration After Replacement

The time has finally come to replace the clutch and flywheel in my car. This job is beyond my skill level so I found a good shop to do the work. They have some experience working on SMGs and have the capability to do the re-calibration themselves. I'm wondering if the calibration has to be done immediately at the shop or if I can limp the car home 4 miles and do it myself on INPA. Just looking to save some labor time/money but if doing so could damage the transmission then I wont risk it. Any insight from SMG owners who have done a clutch replacement?

Don't drive with the new clutch until the computer was calibrated, as this can cause bad shift gear and damage synchro if the new thicker clutch is not fully disengaged using the previous slave stroke distance.

Push it outside the shop and run adaptations there?

I don’t suspect the calibration is more than an hour book time which will be what 10% of this job?

I certainly wouldn’t risk 90% of the cost if you screw up the clutch on the way home or incorrectly calibrate it yourself.

i DIY almost everything, but if I were already at the shop I’d let them do it.

if something goes wrong later they’re not going to warranty the work, either.

        just let them do it

Yeah, seems like the right call just to have them do it. Plus I'm pretty sure that the clutch actuator will need to be bled since some hydraulic lines will be undone to access the transmission.
