With warmer weather here, I can finally start working on the LSB with the garage door open. Almost done with the chassis and RACP preparation before welding.
Going to weld the CMP underside reinforcement plates as well as the CMP front and rear topside reinforcement beams!

Good call on replacing this one, would have never been the same had you fixed the old one.
In addition to all the original spot welds I stitch welded mine around the entire perimeter of the RACP.
Something else to keep in mind is when welding the left rear plate onto a new RACP is the plastic block inside that cavity, ideally you remove that otherwise it will melt and contaminate the welds.

It never cross my mind to try to fix the old panel haha. The whole panel was all torn out and not at the same height anymore. Car was sitting higher than stock even on lowering springs…
I will also weld all the perimeter, in the end it will be stiffer than a new car with all the added welds!

Today I fabricate the jig to install the RACP panel without the RTAB pocket. I took an old rusted E46 non-M rear subframe and weld left over metal tube I had on it with RTAB brackets. Also, first time I try my new Miller Multimatic 200 multiprocess welder in MIG process and damm it’s good! Can’t wait to try the TIG now!

Having been through this myself in my garage on jack stands, I commend the work. What a PITA. I will say that welding in reinforcement plates on the bench to a brand new RACP and then adding top side to boot is the most reassuring way to solve this issue. I don't even think about the subframe any longer. That jig you built is great. Awesome work!
Did a test fit to make sure I did removed undercoating / sealer / primer everywhere before starting welding the RACP in place. Preparation took forever but finally ready to weld. Well almost ready, tomorrow I am going to shoot weld thru primer on all exposed metal area that I won’t be able to have access once weld.

Weld some parts of the CMP front & rear topside reinforcement on the RACP. Also made sure I applied weld thru primer everywhere that won’t be accessible after welding.
