Driftworks puts some... cool, but ultimately stupid, headers on their s85 e46

Good header if you want to heat your coils, intake, belts, rad, hood, etc.

    Impressive fabrication :P.

My gut reaction is that I want to vomit but then these dudes are far more knowledgeable than me and I suppose they will figure it out. Or it will sit in the garage and collect dust. I guess with enough coating, wrapping, hood vents, heat deflectors, etc. it can be done?

The fabrication is crazy. Interested in seeing how they deal with the heat.

Fabrication and looks are really amazing.

I still would never do that, as there is just no technical benefit. But as always: different things for different people.

Glad to see them still hacking away at it – I remember them being one of the first S85 swaps I had heard of all those years ago (and soiling myself when I heard the exhaust through that bypass valve).

It's like an Alien Facehugger took over that S85.

I do hope this swap becomes more manageable over the years, my friend is an E60 M5 fanatic, I am an E46 M3 fanatic so it would be a great long-term project. I am already looking into rollers and we have an engine/trans diff.
May just keep it simple and buy an M5, they are pretty nice imo, even starting to appreciate the looks.

I don't think it's going to. If you watch some of the swap videos out there, it really just doesn't fit.

... it barely fits in the e60 engine bay, really.

I look forward to hearing the videos. It was never an exercise of function.

That's what I heard. The Lang and probably older DINAN stroker kit, if I recall, is less than that. I'd much rather have the stroker kit with some Schrick cams and a carbon airbox, but that is not extreme enough these days . This header thing is (almost) purely an advertising move for their online shop and to sell t-shirts. Otherwise, I don't mind some of their other fab projects that are a bit more sensible.

Would be a lot easier to swap an S85 in an E90 stripper chassis, probably similar weight to E46 as well.

E90 chassis is only ~70 lbs lighter than e60, given the same engine/trans/drive train. Might as well just buy an e60 M5 at that point.
