    Coil pack inquiry

    Hey Fellas,

So I'm just about putting together a replacement engine, to swap into my M this weekend. the replacement motor has BMW 6 coil packs. My motor has a mismatch of other BMW coils, Bosch, and Eldor.

Took a pic (attach)... which coils should I go with? This is what I have on hand between the motors.

6 - BMW 12131712223 (look the same as below)

1 - BMW 12137551260 (look the same as above)

    3 - BOSCH (mini direct) 0221504470

    2 - Eldor 12138657273 (not pictured)

Told its a very strong motor with perfectly even compression across all 6 cylinders (190). Got NGK 3 prong spark plugs (3k miles ago on old motor), so looking to get the best matches, for my tune (FBO NA).

Thanks in advance, for the input!

S54 engine-- NGK spark plugs for the S54 should be 2 prong not 3 prong (edited)

These are the ones I have... are these not the best ones?

Ah sorry for using the incorrect terminology.
          Any feedback on coils?

A little scoring on the crank (cyc 3), from rod bearing failure. Was going to fix as it was right on the edge of file-able... was going to just rebuild with OE parts or stroker. Decided to get another engine as one came up locally. Trying to decide what to do with the old motor now.

I believe 2 part numbers are both correct from BOSCH for your coils. The one you mentioned x4470 and 0221504464. I wonder what the difference is between the two part numbers are.

In your picture, the two coils at the bottom are the older style that originally came with the engine, so most likely have higher miles than the rest. The top one is the updated Bosch coil and work great in my experience. Eldor became the OEM supplier after Bosch and now BMW uses Delphi coils. It might be best to go with the 6 matching Bosch coils and keep the Eldor (and the other coils) as a backup. They should all have a date stamp, so you could also choose the coils that are the newest.
