Yea, the cutoff was 10/2004. I've always wondered why this change was made. If the boots have a larger size on the airbox side I can only assume that means the stock airbox on 10/2004+ cars would be physically different and have a different part number. I don't know if that is the case or not or why this change was made but wondered about this when doing my conversion.

Can confirm that on my car with a September 2004 production date that the boots fit properly with the Karbonius airbox and did not need to be changed out.

Are the pre-10/04 boots needed for the Evolve box as well? I believe they provide their own silicone boots with the box but not sure of the quality.

I bought a single boot PN 11-61--2-466-477 and test fit it today. It slid right on tightly and bottomed out on the internal stop.
So not sure whats going on with that.
Where did the info come from that the early boot had to be used.

There are a few different boot PNs that are used per real OEM.com.

CSL diagram states that PN 11-61-7-830-265 was originally used for manufacturing dates up to 10/2002 and replaced by 11-61-466-477 for CSL and non-CSL M3s until 10/2004. So looks like you are good to go.

What you DON’T want is PN 11-61-7-835-861 which is too large. Ask me how I know...
