    Repurpose the spatial audio button?

    Greetings.

Anyone know if it is possible to repurpose the spatial audio button? I have replaced the HK audio system and would like to use the button to connect to ground and act as the emergency override for my autocoolguy fan controller.

    TIA

I have no memory of how I did it, but mine is the power on/off for my laser jammer.

Well, at least now I know it can be done.

Should be pretty simple. Looks like pin 19 on the back of the switch center is the output for that button, so would just need to run a wire from there to the signal input on your fan controller. Not sure if the output of the button is Vcc or ground, so you might also need to wire in a relay/transistor to swap it around.

Thanks Heinz! It was very kind of you to dig this up.

Guess I will get started sorting it out.

No problem! Let us know how it goes.

IIRC, the output is 5V so you need everything to work on 5V or you need a converter to setup up the voltage to 12v

just send it to a relay and go 12v from there.

Can you trigger a 12v relay with 5v?

No. I'm almost positive it is 5v unless the M3 is different from an 04 330Ci. I remember wiring in a special relay to another relay and then to whatever I had it connected to. Might have been to turn on/off the amp for the subs.

No but you can buy a relay with a 5V coil. BJT or FET can work as well as a trigger for the 12V relay.

Interesting, the HK sound system in my car is gone as well. I have been looking at the Valvetronic exhaust and I wonder if this can be made to work as the open/close button? The speaker icon would actually be quite fitting for that use.

I've also wondered about enabling the CSL flap to control the exhaust instead so it's RPM based like old Ferraris did.

                            Maybe something like this? https://www.amazon.com/HiLetgo-Chann...s%2C455&sr=8-3

I am just not sure what it is expecting for a trigger current. More research required.

Not sure that would work, as those valves take a bit to open/close. By the time you were done a pull, you'd drop out of the RPM window it's open in again.
