Goody-goody! That means the Michelin Pilot Sport 5S tire isn’t far behind; can’t wait!

Hopefully they come out before I order new tires this summer. If not I’m sure the 4s is still a great choice.

      Isn't 4s a better choice?

They're not in the exact same catagory right? PS5"S" will be the upgrade.

Hopefully 4s prices drop. They're the perfect street tire.

WTF, why would Michelin call that tire a Pilot Sport 5 instead of the Primacy 5. The tire looks like the successor to the Primacy 4+ rather than the Pilot Sport 4s.

Maxxis finished higher in ranking than the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S? Whaaat? Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction as the saying goes.

I guess the all conquering Pilot Sport 4S is not that all conquering anymore…

After the original post about how we thought the Pilot 4S is still a great tire, I went searching to see how an aging design fairs against its competitors. Evo’s 2022 Tire Test using a front drive GTI had me perplexed but wondering if it was the automotive platform (FWD), which was affecting tire performance and thus ranking.

Luckily for us, EVO performed a tire test using a platform similar to our M3, meaning rear drive, powerful engine, differential with limited slip capability, and a manual gearbox; EVO chose a Mustang GT. I place greater faith in this tire test than the previous tire test using the V Dub GTI.

Pilot Sport 4S is still the king of max performance summer category. Continental released version 2 of extreme contract sport just a few months ago which is a very close 2nd place and much easier to get your hands on than PS4S. Supposedly it has better wear than version 1 but when you're spending well over $1000 on a set of tires then might as well spend the extra $200 and get PS4S than the Contis.

Last I looked into pilot sport 5, it was only made in limited sizes and not really available for order in most. Looks like that hasn't changed for several months now.

Honestly for street driving you'll never reach max potential of most of these tires. All you'll be doing is picking up way more rocks and throwing them at your fenders for lovely rock chips.

I had trouble finding PS4S in 275/30 R19 for the rears and they probably won't make them in that size.
I may have to drop a size down for PS4S or go with PS5.

Me too in both 275/30-19 and 245/35/19. I waited about 3-4 months to get a set. Michelin produced a batch in January and tirerack gets them first apparently. Costco and Americas tire can't keep them in stock. And apparently americas tire/discount tire bought tirerack last year.
