After 15 years in E46 M3's, the Dixis is the best in overall sound to weight and fitment comparisons.

The SS Race sounds like a Honda.

The El Diablo loses power (I had one for like 3 months and Ben @RE told me to get something else because I'm cammed lol)

If you want an exhaust on this car that sounds good, swap the engine.

If you can't afford that, Dixis.

If you can't afford that, stock exhaust.

        .
After 21 years in e46 m3s, dixis is not the best sounding exhaust. Perhaps weight and fitment is good though I made no comment pertaining to that.

People also like lsb and phoenix yellow now so there's that.

Name a better sounding E46 M3 exhaust that you have heard in person or driven.

I have a full SSV1 kit with Race Sec. 3, I don't think it sounds like a Honda. Now, maybe the Sport would have been better choice, but a Honda? Not IMO. I will say, the exhaust note changed after I had a tune (HTE). So, maybe it might sound like a Honda on another car, maybe without headers and tune, etc., but not mine.

Aren't most/many of you guys running a CSL airbox? I thought the general train of thought was a quieter exhaust so as not to drown out the induction noise.

Yes, but you can still hear it...best of both worlds really as you get some induction noise and exhaust!

Listen to it from outside the car lol

I have the full SSV1 setup with the oversized sections too. Just with those mods and an HTE tune, it sounds like a Honda.

The SS Race does not help with that IMHO.

The fact is, the exhaust note on this car no matter the exhaust is bad.

That being said, I think personal preference is the key here.

Some people like the stock exhaust so there's that.

                          I'm still saying engine swap.

E46 m3. Worst exhaust note, best induction note (csl).
E9x m3. Best exhaust note, second best induction (and best, if comparing stock cars)

There's all sorts of cyclical dogma in the community.

Well, I guess we just need one massive forum G2G. First agenda, we can all ride around and listen to these exhausts and settle this, then agree to disagree in the end, and bump this thread after the fact and start all over again. Second agenda, torque tests on re-using subframe bolts, with and without angle on top of torque, third agenda, I dunno, different tunes, airboxes. Lol, anyway, I had failed cats, sprung for the full SS system and overall, I like it. Race S3, eh, maybe the sport would have been better. But I have other stuff to do.
