I have almost 100k miles on the camber plates. About 80k of those are with the factory struts/springs and the rest on Ohlins R&T.

I am running the factory strut bar on the car.
That is good info, often time I hear people say my car has been together for X years and its fine, then find out they only drive it 1k miles a year, lol.

I wonder if the stock springs helped or the strut brace acted like a reinforcement?

    Here are pics of:

    Stock Non-M mount
    Stock M3 mount
    GC Camber plate
    Vorshlag Camber plate

I wonder why this never happened with the stock springs/struts and the GC camber plates ... mechanically it should be the same?

Assuming you have replaced the BMW bearing? If not, you should also replace the bushings in the street plates. $100 for both of those from GC. I think it's odd you'd have any noise, I have never heard a peep out of mine running V3's, which has the progressive spring and stock perch as well.

Maybe the lack of a "stop" on the bottom spring perch to keep the spring from twisting is the cause of the noise.

I’m guessing you run the stock Ohlins springs up front? The lower part is 65 mm.

R1pilot those thrust sheets that SQ13 linked will do the job. I went a little more complicated with roller thrust bearings from McMaster-Carr. The setup is one bearing with 2 washers for each spring. I used the thinnest washer.Click image for larger version

I would love to see what you have done and fix the noise on my camber plates, its driving me nuts.

Just in case it matters, I am also running a square wheel/tire set-up, but I doubt that matters at all.

    I imagine these would work.
Improve your coilovers performance and reduce unwanted spring noise with Swift Thrust Sheets. These proprietary self lubricating sheets will allow your coilover springs to smoothly rotate around the perch under compression. This enables the load on the spring to be more evenly distributed easing the pre-load and reduci

SQ13 as mentioned in other thread, I don't think you have an issue and I'd line them up and see if they don't seat themselves. I'd bet you still have some stock top mounts you could use to test that theory

Yes I think it's known. There are shims/spacers for the early strut towers for the top, but I don't know about the underside.

So the reinforcement plates don’t seem to fit the shape of my 01 M3’s strut towers. Is this a known issue?

but…a pretty weld can be good, can also be bad. There are many variables to consider. Sometimes, a weld has to be ugly to prevent failure.
