Do you happen to have any other information on why these alternators might be failing? Also, could you tell me what are the common symptoms that I should be looking out for? This is the first time I'm reading about it and now it's made me nervous haha
I had a crappy Bosch alternator. This is what I found. I've found something similar on 2 others.
Brand new Valeo only. The reman units are trash and use china components. You'll keep wasting your time with the remans in my experience. Valeo and move on for another 100k miles.
I've had my Bosch reman for a few years now. Last time this was brought up, someone mentioned they either fail pretty quickly or last a while. I wouldn't be too nervous about it if I were you.
When I had to replace mine about a year and a half ago I went with a new Valeo, which was what my stealer-installed replacement was marked (which was obv "genuine") when they did it ~10-11 years ago. Get it from rock auto, for whatever reason they blow the doors off everyone else on price for that part and it's new. Part number 439317 on their site.
