I am with you on this. However, the list is getting smaller and smaller :-( One of the criteria that I had when I was in the process of purchasing my wife's current daily was that it must have a physical dipstick and people told me I was an idiot for passing up a car based on that criteria. Glad to see someone with a similar opinion on those oil sensors ;-)

Have an E82 and recently did an oil change. Added what the service manual called for and electronic dipstick read halfway between min and max. Parked uphill, the car would scream at me to add a quart (parked downhill, level showed at max). Added half a quart and it shows 75% of max sometimes and max others.

I've decided to stop checking the level lol. Really dislike that stupid electronic dipstick.

Its probably between min and half but shows half. On my E90, I change the oil, put in 8L and then drive it. Add a .5qt at a time until no more warning. I am going to do the BW dipstick conversion.

You made me look into dipstick solutions for the N51/N52. Turns out there's an unused port on the side of the auto oil pans that looks perfect for a dipstick. It's threaded too so could probably just screw a fitting into it and make some adapter for the dipstick tube.

Hmmmm, wasn't looking for another project, but adding a dipstick would be great.

I use the Schwaben 6.5 on all my cars. M3 and s2k are very easy since the filter is easily accessible from the top. The other cars require accessing the filter from the bottom, at least it's nice that one of them I don't need to jack up.

I don't bother warming up the engine/oil, I just pump the handle 10 times and leave for 30mins. Even if I had a quick jack (which I don't) I wouldn't get under if I don't have to, saves so much time. Just make sure you insert the tube deep enough to get to the bottom of the pan by watching how much oil came out when it starts sucking air.

You can't drain ALL the oil even from the bottom. If you've ever taken the oil pan off, you've seen how much oil still remains in there, not even talking about the front sump pickup valley, the lines from filter housing to the oil cooler, cooler itself, etc. Drive the car, replace the oil few times a year, it'll be fine.

Not having topside access is making me pause on e90 M...
