Any experience passing smog with Euro Cats?

Battery was disconnected to change starter motor. First time trying smog o2, secondary air and catalyst all had incomplete I/M readiness check. Replaced pre cat o2 sensors now evreything is complete except for catalyst. Car passed CA smog 4 or 5 years ago, but I specifically remember them running it on a dyno, now they just plug in. Ive done over 500 miles and 2 "drive cycles" since starter motor was done, but only 1 drive cycle since o2 sensor replacement.

Luckily car came with stock headers with cats, but would prefer not to tear my hair out replacing headers and section 2 if I dont have to. Should I do more drive cycles or get the spanners out?

    Any advice is much apreciated

I think it should be fine. Just need to extend the length of the rear o2 sensor.

The euro cats were put on by the previous owner. The work underneath looks good and they have o2 sensors on them, but they have not been replaced. The only o2 sensors I replaced were the ones on the headers.

Reading through the other thread about CA Smog on here people are completing readiness checks with race cats so maybe just some more drive cycles could do the trick.

Passed with Euro cats early this year. Just do a late evening drive with a live ODB2 reader to complete the drive cycle. Once everything turns green, you're set.

When we had the Drive-Clean test here in Ontario that was a OBD hook up to check all sensors were ready and a sniffer test at a certain speed, my Euro cats always passed easily. Way below the max numbers.

Thank you all for the replies this is just what I was looking for.

Extremly comforting knowing its possible. Seems its just a matter of proper drive cycles. I have a wireless obd2 so ill do some drive cycles late at night and see if I can get that green "completed" to pop up.

I'm in the same situation as you right now. I have Euro Cats too and all my sensors are on except cats. Did 2 drive cycles and it's still not on, really frustrating. What's the part number on the O2 sensors for Euro Cats? I'll replace them.

I believe they use the same as stock post cat o2 sensors but just require extentions. 11781406622 and 11781406621.

With the torque app you can log activity and then graph it in google drive or excel. Might be easy to tell if they are going bad from there. However, I graphed mine before I replaced the post cat o2 and they looked fine. Replaced them anyways and it completed evreything but catalyst so I clearly dont know what im looking at. If you replace them and pass I will likely do the same. Wont be able to do another drive cycle till this weekend.

Edit: looking at it agian it almost looks like bank 1 sensor 2 is lazy. That could be post cat, but like I said I really dont know what to look for.

I installed the Super Sprint headers and cats (which are downstream like the euro cats) while I installed a VinceBar and skinz. I re-used all of my existing O2 sensors. The cats were the last thing to achieve readiness, and it took a lot of driving to get there. Might take a while, but you should be fine sooner or later.

Drive cycles have never worked for me but this is what has:
                    - Start car
                    - Drive to freeway and do not exceed 4K rpms
                    - Set cruise control to 55-59 (do not exceed 60mph) and do not exceed 4K rpms
                    - Drive for 10-15 min without stopping if possible
                    - Exit and pullover

Cruise control is the key here and do not exceed 60mph or 4Krpms.

Just went through smog myself and found that it was harder to get the cats to set on the highway between 55-60mph.

Instead I went to a local mountain route, put it on cruise control around 45mph and it set within minutes. Not sure whether it's a function of the lower speed, or the lower gear I chose going uphill (closer to 3k RPM) but something worth trying. I also let the car warm up for longer at idle and drove around normally below 3k RPM until everything was fully warmed up before attempting the drive cycle.

I am running a square 18x10 setup on 265/35/18, so maybe I fucked up the drive cycle due to the speedometer showing a slower speed than I was actually going (was keeping it between 55-60 but may have gone over 60 due to inaccuracy). I'll give it another shot before replacing the o2 sensors.

Something about cruise control really gets it to the readiness state faster.

Exact steps for how to complete a drive cycle and activate all emissions monitors.

EU cats will pass provided the OEM O2 sensors have been properly installed and extended (there is a loom that can be unraveled an extended) Only difference between EU and US cats is the cold start emissions filtering. This only matters if you're getting a sniffer test, which our cars are not subject to. If the car is hot, the sniffer test shouldn't be negatively impacted.

Do this drive cycle and activate all of your monitors (check with a cheap monitor scanner that can be bought on Amazon for 15-30 bucks) and you should be good to go.

That drive cycle is so ridiculous in terms of practicality executing it on any city streets. Tried it so many times and it’s basically impossible to do during any reasonable hour of the day.
