I thought it was a great article.. sure a bit long but aren’t we all passionate here? The wagon is a proper M3 build unlike most half-assed jobs we see in North America these days. Also the M3 seems to be a serious weapon, would probably outperform most cars on this forum.

I think it’s even cooler that the guy partnered with Akrapovic and Bilstein, and is essentially running a drift school. Most of the rest of us can only dream of making a career out of our hobby.

Well it is a proper M3 wagon but it isn't in some sense.

The owner or the original builder does admit the back when they initially built this wagon. It was originally brought over as an SMG gearbox and they removed the touring chassis harness and ended up using the M3 chassis harness so they didn't know how to add the wiring for the rear doors and the touring trunk hatch etc ..

The car since been converted to a manual transmission since it was sold to somebody else. A close friend it says in the article and he says if they were to do it all over again today it will be a lot easier because now they know how to retain the touring chassis harness

I currently have my M3 sedan which was a lot easier wiring wise than the touring

I have a touring that I'll be converting to an M3 wagon. I also have an M3 vert as a donor

And one of the things I'm going to do is I'm going to retain the whole SMG system as well

I'll be leaving the touring chassis harness in place

And I've already drew up all of the wiring diagrams. I need to retrofit the SMG system into the wagon. It's really not that bad. The smg DME actually has a lot less wiring than the automatic DME from the touring that's currently in there

So it seems like it's going to be a lot of fun and I love the SMG system always have.

Sounds like you should be able to reuse all the auto transmission wiring that's already in the touring, nice. Should save you a bunch of time.

Any idea if a SMG (SSG) Non-M car shares the same harness as a SMG M-Car?

I have one of the weird SSG 330i’s and I’ve been curious if that stuff would just plug in or if it’s a totally different harness. Can’t see BMW using a unique one on such a low volume car but stranger things have happened.
