Which to Pick: StopTech Vs. Zimmermann Stock Rotors

What rotors have you had better luck with, StopTech or Zimmermann for a stock replacement.

How do you use the car and why asking about luck, in terms of what?

Normal street driving. With the Zimmermann, they seem to only last a year before they have a vibration. I am using Cool Carbon brake pads.

Vibration could be from pad deposits - once warm, slam on your brakes from time to time to "clean" them and leave behind a fresh pad transfer.

While I don't hold either of these companies in high regard, I don't see any issue using their blank discs for basic driving. I've used centric blanks for years as well as Meyle.

Like Gizmo said, it can come down to driving style/needs. I think it also can come down to whether you're ok with a chinese made rotor or not, and your budget.

Who makes the BMW rotor? FCPEuro doesn't indicate an OEM source

BMW does some of the work itself in Berlin. But ATE and Bosch also delivered to production

But I can say the same about them, there are even more OEM manufacturers

They both work fine, but for the same price, Zimmerman.

Most likely the vibration you're feeling is just a pad material deposit, as said above. It takes a lot to actually warp or otherwise damage a rotor to the point where you'd feel a vibration, especially from street driving with those type of pads.

Whatever gets you free replacements from FCP.

Abrasive race pads used for a few miles will clean pad deposits very quickly. The brake bedding procedure does not work to clean pad deposits caused by HPS or Stoptech Sport pads.

I have no experience with either brand, but I did just get the Genuine BMW rotors and so far so good, for street driving. Same with pads.

I recently installed Zimmerman and had pulsing after like 2000 miles or something. It would be especially bad on hard braking. I exchanged them through FCP and the new set so far is perfect.

When I removed the old set, I noticed a ton of the zinc coating had built up underneath the rotor between the rotor and hub, and had scrubbed off. It created sort of a lubrication between those surfaces. I recall when I torqued that wheel it felt "mushy" as the nuts reached torque. So I think that was potentially a contributor. The rotors themselves looked perfect on the brake pad surface.

There's an old Italian saying which translates into "savings never leads to profit".

Should be a sticky on this forum.
